"Great team to work with, quality work, they go out of their way to please the customer. We were doing a living room and front deck expansion project and Paul and his team delivered a beautiful completed project and on budget. I recently left the union as a journeyman carpenter and superintendent. I built custom homes in my 20’s after graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Before college I worked in all phases of construction from concrete and framing to finish work. I have a well rounded understanding of building and am passionate about what I do and the quality of work I provide. In my personal life I am led by Jesus. I enjoy running several times a week and working out in my home gym. My goals are to provide value to my clients and give back to my community.

Garages questions, answered by experts

It’s better to build a garage than buy and install a prefabricated one. You can save money by purchasing a prefabricated metal garage kit for between $4,000 and $11,000. However, this does not include the price of labor and permits, which can account for more than half of the project cost. Building a new garage over buying a prefab garage will add more value to your home and will last longer, so it’s more cost-effective over time to build a new garage.

Indoor propane heaters are safe to use in a garage. You may be able to use an outdoor propane heater inside a garage in some instances, as long as the garage door remains open and there’s constant airflow to allow the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide to escape. Other garage heaters include electric heaters and gas heaters.

It is highly recommended to prime a metal surface, like a garage door, before painting. Primer creates a stable surface for the paint to adhere to, which helps prevent bubbling, chipping, and peeling. This ensures the paint job will last longer. Painting metal without a primer can lead to poor adhesion and allow rust to bleed through the new paint. If the surface already has rust spots, you can cover them with a zinc chromate primer before applying the final coat. While priming adds an extra step and cost, it is a worthwhile investment for a durable, long-lasting finish. For best results, also use a paint specifically designed for metal.

A prefab, or prefabricated garage, requires far less construction work than one with a foundation and frame, but it’s not nearly as desirable and may not be a worthwhile option. A prefabricated garage won’t be as durable or long-lasting, and it doesn’t provide the same protection for your belongings and vehicles. Plus, you can use a standard garage for more uses—like living space—whereas a prefab garage only serves as a space for storage. Lastly, building a traditional garage will add to your home value, while a prefab garage usually won’t.

It’s important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of epoxy garage floor coatings. Consider the following pros and cons of this garage addition, including the following:

Pros:

  • Increased visibility

  • Durability

  • Long lifespan

  • Low maintenance

  • Versatile appearance

  • More sustainable

Cons:

  • Strong odor when applying

  • Difficult to remove

  • Can be slippery

  • Possible bubbles and blisters

  • Temperature sensitive while curing
