Sagging is likely a sign of underlying problems with the structure of your home, such as uneven subflooring or rotting joists. Sheet vinyl is among the most affordable flooring options, and it’s very durable, too. You can buy sheet vinyl for as low as $0.50 per square foot, and it can last you 10 to 20 years. After sheet vinyl, laminate flooring is the next most cost-friendly flooring option, with prices ranging from $1 to $6 per square foot. Other inexpensive but durable options include linoleum, carpeting, and concrete, each of which can be purchased for as low as $2 per square foot.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.

The toilet flange anchors to the subfloor, usually with wood screws or cement screws, but most of it should sit above floor level at full height. When a flange is flush with the subfloor or below it, it can lead to the creation of leak paths.

While it’s possible to install carpet yourself, it’s best to hire a local carpet installer to ensure it’s done correctly and safely. Before installing carpet yourself, check whether the manufacturer’s warranty will remain intact. Many manufacturer’s warranties won’t cover the cost of materials under the warranty if it wasn’t installed by a pro. In addition, you should only install carpet yourself if you’re familiar with the tools required and if the installation is straightforward, not involving things such as floor vents or stairs.
