"Julio was very nice and worked hard to get the job done. He was efficient and did a great job of getting rid of a lot of dead weeds and a big bush in my backyard. He made a huge difference and cleaned up my yard very well. I highly recommend this pro."

"This was Larry’s first time cutting and servicing my lawn, and I was very pleased with the results. The yard looked noticeably neater, the edging was clean, and the overall appearance was a significant improvement over the previous service I had been using. He listened to what I asked for, followed through, and appears to take pride in doing the job properly. He also sprayed the areas that needed attention and initially did not intend to charge for that spraying, although I insisted on paying him something. I also appreciated seeing him and his helpers working together. They showed a strong work ethic and were consistent and thorough. Based on this first cutting, I am very satisfied with his work and look forward to seeing what he can do with landscaping my backyard."

Hello, my name is Jason Ross. I have been a hands on guy my whole life when it comes to repair, build, install, etc. I worked with a crew during the years of 2002 - 2005. We focused primarily on decks and fences but also performed many remodels and window/door installs. We could tackle any job that a customer needed done. \n For 19 years I worked as a deckhand/engineer on tugboats. Lots of mechanical experience from that job. \n For the last 4 years I have been working as a handyman for my own company, Blue Collar Home Solutions. I have completed just about every job you can think of during these last few years. I have also built a handful of storage sheds and lean to's. \n I am right at home mounting a TV, pressure washing a home, installing the flooring of your choice, or building a large deck.... No job too small, not many jobs too big. I believe in immediate communication as well as thoroughly communicating with the customer on a daily basis throughout the entirety of the job. \n

Mulch and Topsoil FAQs, answered by experts

Mulch can increase the aesthetic and curb appeal of your property, and it provides a ton of benefits for your trees, shrubs, and even your foundation. Here are some of the benefits of installing mulch:

  • Protects your trees from weed whacker strikes

  • Helps regulate moisture in the soil for better plant and tree health

  • Can improve your home’s curb appeal and, therefore, your property value

  • Reduces how much runoff soaks into the soil around your foundation, potentially reducing the risk of foundation damage and leaking

Topsoil provides plants with essential nutrients, water, and air for healthy root growth. It offers a rich ecosystem of microorganisms that improve soil quality and structure. For existing lawns, ¼ inch of topdressing can enhance root growth and support new seed. For gardens, two inches of topsoil can promote strong growth and crops.

The best equipment for moving large rocks from your yard depends on their size and weight. A heavy-duty wheelbarrow or a rock dolly can be effective for smaller boulders. A skid-steer loader or a mini-excavator with a grapple attachment provides the necessary power and control for larger, heavier rocks that you can’t lift manually. Professionals may use a larger excavator and ratchet hoist to remove larger boulders.

How tall your mulch should be around your tree depends on the type of mulch you use, but aim for 3 to 4 inches as a rule of thumb. You’ll want to avoid simply piling it up in hopes of offering additional benefits to your tree. Volcano mulching is the infamous term for piling way too much mulch against the stem of your tree. This could actually kill your tree or severely harm it, as your tree trunk needs space to breathe without too much moisture.

The best way to landscape your front yard on a budget is to invest in hiring a professional for hardscaping—things like upgrading walkways, redoing driveways, and installing partitions around garden beds. You can often do the softscaping yourself—think laying down mulch, caring for your lawn, removing weeds, and planting flowers and shrubs. It’s also almost always worthwhile to pay a professional for routine yard maintenance, as this dramatically improves curb appeal and delivers above 100% ROI in most cases.
