At W.L. Construction, we take pride in transforming homes and businesses for customers who are content with their neighborhoods but in search of new ways to inhabit old spaces. As a general contracting company, bringing 1880's farm houses into the 21st century; updating downtown facades; reconfiguring walls, doors, and windows to bring a garden into full view; doing kitchen remodels or vaulting the living room ceiling with a bank of skylights is all in a day’s work. New Construction New Construction: Creating new places to live and work is tremendously satisfying and at the same time, something we do selectively. Remodeling has always been our bread and butter but under the right circumstances, we have been enticed to start from bare ground. We and our customers thoroughly enjoyed the process. Referrals All of our work is generated by 33 years of happy customers. Other than this website, our only advertising is word-of-mouth by our past and current customers. Attending to the customer's complete satisfaction is our primary concern.

Windows questions, answered by experts

Installing energy-efficient windows costs between $325 and $2,000, averaging about $400 per window. You’ll have to consider cost factors like the window’s size, frame material, and type. Labor costs in your area will also impact the overall cost of the project, with window installation professionals charging about $40 per hour on average. Different types of energy-efficient windows include:

  • Single-hung: $150–$2,500

  • Casement: $150–$600

  • Double-hung: $250–$3,000

  • Picture: $200–$650

  • Bay: $480–$1,920

If your window well fills with water, first remove the water as soon as weather conditions allow, using a pump or wet/dry vacuum. If water has seeped into your basement, you may need to call a professional to assess the damage. Once the water has been pumped out of the well, check the drainage at the bottom of the well and clear out any blockages.

Vinyl windows have a few cons to consider before installing. For instance, while vinyl windows are energy efficient in terms of maintaining your home’s temperature, the actual process of making vinyl windows involves chemicals that are harmful for the environment. Vinyl windows are also less customizable than some other types of windows.

Window screens are available in several standard sizes, such as 18 inches by 14 inches or 20 inches by 20 inches. You can also order custom screens to match a non-standard window. Keep in mind that screens don’t necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to insert a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.

Replacement windows normally don’t come with new sills, as the sill is part of the window frame that the replacement window fits inside. If you’re replacing windows, it’s a good idea to replace the sill, as well, especially since the sill will be fully exposed and easily accessible for replacement.
