"Company owners showed up at the agreed date and time.  They did a thorough walk around, asked what seemed to me to be the appropriate questions, and gave me an estimate on the spot.  They told me I would be contacted by their scheduler to arrange for the work crew to come do the work.  They thoroughly explained the process to be used and the precautions that would be taken to protect my property.
 A couple of days later the scheduler called to ask if their crew could come in a couple of hours since they had finished another job earlier than expected.  The crew did its work in about two hours completely to my satisfaction.  They did a good job of cleaning up the fairly small mess they had made and I am extremely satisfied with their work.

The best basement waterproofing method depends on the specific issue causing the water intrusion. For minor problems, simple solutions like installing a properly functioning gutter system to direct runoff away and grading the soil to slope away from your foundation can be effective.

If you have more significant water problems, the solution will need to be more robust:

  • For standing water on the basement floor, a floor drain or a sump pump system may be the best solution.

  • For water pooling around the foundation, installing an exterior French drain can intercept water before it reaches the basement walls.

Other effective waterproofing methods, which can be used depending on your home's specific needs, climate, and soil type, include sealing the interior walls, landscape alteration, installing interior drainage systems, and using a dehumidification system to control moisture levels.

Standing water under your house can threaten its structural integrity. If water pools in your crawl space, it can damage the foundation and the structure above ground, causing wood rot, mold, and other problems. If you have a concrete foundation, standing water under your house can also make your foundation slabs crack.

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.
