"Redhawk had the best quote of all. I was looking for someone local who could do the entire job to run power to my shop and barn. They told me that they pride themselves on doing the job to code and completing the job on time. They spent the time to completely research applicable codes, best prices with the current market and availability if materials resulting in upgrading the wire size at no additional cost. Redhawk rented the trencher, dug the trenches, ran URD cables and encased them in conduit so the gophers could not damage the cables. They did not let snow and extreme cold from preventing the job from progressing. Their dedication to the job was commendable, working until 9:30 pm to stay ahead of the weather. There was always great communication as needed anytime. I would highly recommend Redhawk Electric for your electrical needs."

"This crew worked very hard and communicated with me the entire day. My flowerbed was a huge challenge and they made it super pretty! They offered to plant my flowers for me but I want to do that part myself with my daughter. They gave me a perfect blank canvas to create in. They gave me a ton of pointers to help me on my flowerbed journey and educated me on different soils and mulch I'm super excited to work with them on many more yard projects. I'll post pics when I'm done planting."

Small jobs welcome

"We were very pleased with the work the folks at AlphaLandworks did for us! It included a free estimate, grading a long steep drive and laying and packing crusher run gravel, grading a large yard and laying a bunch of sod. All in less than a week from the time found on Angi. They are so easy and honest to work with and reasonable price too. "

Customers say: Quick response

"I would give this company 10 stars if I could. He prepared our entire site, I am referring to bulldozing through the woods up a steep mountain to build us a perfectly sloped switchback road around streams and rock, creating appropriate drainage, moving gigantic rocks and leaving them in a beautiful artistic array and then removing all the cleared trees (huge piles) with controlled burning and finally creating a beautiful pad and building site (completely level) on the side of a mountain for us. We are still in awe. Fees were extremely fair and explained prior to any work. If I could describe the owner with one word, it would be integrity. What a hard working, highly skilled young man!! I recommend this company 100% for all your dirt and excavation needs!!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.

If you choose to leave gaps between your pavers, you can grow some ground cover plants between them for an organic feel. Look for plants such as creeping thyme, dymondia, jewel mint of Corsica, or clover.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.
