"I worked with Michael. He did some repair on my storage building for a scepter. The wood was hanging down so he repaired it with the new wood. He did a great job and I have used him before for other things. He told me my roof has some spaces because it is 25 years old and is in bad shape. The insurance company sent out somebody and he could picture it and it did look bad."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"If I could, I would give 10 stars! Stacie was fantastic! I put my info in for doing 2 walls for insulation which was on a Sunday. Stacie contacted me THAT day. I figure I wouldn’t hear anything until Monday. Stacie asked what was the dimensions for the walls. When I sent her the info, she sent back to me what the process would be in detail step by step to the cost. Very reasonable for the price. When the crew came today, they were very professional and fantastic! They did what Stacie stated. I highly recommend using them!"

"Hiring Lando Werx turned out to be one of the best performers I have ever hired for anything. He created a plan with me, his prices was surprisingly cheap for the quality of work I received, I even hired him already to do extra work because he did such an amazing job. I will no doubt hire him again and would highly recommend him. He had to fix a giant mess at my house and it looks far better than it ever did when it was built a few years ago. Very professional, very friendly, can't recommend enough. Wish I could add pictures because my review doesn't do justice to the quality of work he did."

"Trent was great to work with! After an initial inspection of the deck he decided the best way to clean the old wood and proceed. He also recommended blending some deck stain colors to get a better match for the previous color. Trent had some sudden openings  and came out and cleaned the deck in one afternoon and was nice enough to place the deck furniture in the yard while working. He came back the next week and stained the entire deck in one day. I gave a B for price because I had received another deck staining quote for slightly less, but decided to go with Trent after talking to him and seeing other reviews. The finished product was worth it, and I highly recommend Trent and his team.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Professionals charge between $60 and $95 per hour to install ornamental porch columns. The amount of time they need varies based on the condition of the porch, whether they need to remove old columns, and if there is any damage to your porch's structure. This cost can increase if more issues come up during the installation process.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.
