When people talk about wood siding, they are usually talking about clapboard siding. However, not all wood siding is in the clapboard style: It can be tongue-and-groove, shake, and other designs. To keep your concrete log siding in good shape, you’ll simply need to reseal it every two to five years. Confirm with your manufacturer to determine how often to reseal.

Clapboard is more sustainable than vinyl siding materials, which are made of plastic. Clapboard made from fiber cement can also be considered environmentally friendly. You may only need to repaint fiber cement siding every decade or so, but you should clean it every six to 12 months, depending on your local climate.
