For instance, if the roots continue to grow near sidewalks, driveways, or the foundation of your home, they can cause damage. If you want to plant something else in that spot, removing the roots can make it easier for the new tree or plant to grow.

If your stump has a pest problem, don’t worry; it won’t slow down the stump grinding process. It might even speed it up. But you may want to contact pest control afterward if it looks like a spreading infestation.

The fastest way to remove a tree stump is to use a stump grinder. You can hire a professional stump removal service or rent the machine. If you choose to grind the stump out yourself, keep in mind these machines are large and can be difficult to transport and operate. A more affordable way to remove a tree stump is to use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate decomposition, which can take four to six months.
