"My wife enjoyed how non-evasive he was, as she was working from home that day. All work was completed, and there wasn't any hard up-selling for products or scare tactics, which occurred with a "well known" electric company. A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire. 

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

There are several indicators that a single-pole switch is bad: the switch is warm or hot to the touch, sparks are sometimes present when turning the switch on or off, you hear a buzzing sound or other weird noise coming from the switch, the connected light flickers when you turn on the switch, and the light doesn't turn on at all with the switch.
