"I paid Chris Knocks $5800 to apply epoxy and sealant to 3 porch floors. After the first application I could see roller marks and they didn't do a good clean-up job. I sent Chris pics of their work. They came and did it again and the same thing happened. I researched how to apply the sealant and they were doing it wrong. I told Chris that and he got very defensive and told me he is a professional and has been doing this for 15 years and my research is bogus. He told me the reason the roller marks are there is because Beau applied the sealant in the heat of the day. I told him to come out and do it again. Chris told me he had a doctor appointment at 9:30 and would be out after that. At 11:00 he told me he can't come out because he is having a medical procedure done but he would send Beau out to do the work again in the heat of the day. I told them not to touch it. DO NOT USE THEM!"

Carpet tiles are less expensive than traditional carpet. The average cost of carpet installation is $1,800, or $3 to $11 per square foot. In comparison, carpet tiles cost $2.50 to $11 apiece and can often be bought in bulk cartons. Since you can more easily DIY carpet tiles, you may be able to save on installation costs, too.

Even if you’re just replacing your carpet and not your baseboards, experts recommend removing existing baseboards before installing new carpet. This allows for a clean and seamless installation without the risk of damaging the baseboards or the carpet. There are a few different types of finishes to choose from for the final step of the project. 

Water-based polyurethane sealants emit fewer odors and fumes but dry quickly, which can pose a challenge when trying to get a smooth coat. Oil-based polyurethane sealants let out more odors and fumes into the air (it’s especially important to wear a respirator if you choose this type), but they take longer to dry, which can be more forgiving during the finishing step. 

Some may prefer wood oil to polyurethane because rather than creating a layer, it becomes part of the wood. Wood oil takes longer to dry, and is less resistant to wear and tear; however, it creates a natural-looking result by enhancing the grain of the wood. 

Carpet installers use furniture sliders or blankets to protect your furniture during the installation process. They handle each piece with care to minimize the risk of damage. Additionally, they may employ techniques such as lifting and shifting furniture rather than dragging it across the floor to prevent scratches or other marks. If you have particularly delicate or heavy items that need to be moved, discuss special handling with the installers beforehand.

Squeaking floors don’t usually pose an immediate safety risk. It can be the result of normal settlement, changes in humidity, or natural wear. Uneven or warped floors do pose a trip risk, so you should call a pro for a repair. This is especially true if you notice visible signs of rot or deterioration.
