"Skyler Justus and his team did a great job renovating my auntâ s bathroom to make it more accessible for her. He replaced her bathtub with a beautiful tile walk in shower with grab bars and a handheld shower head. He removed her old standard toilet for a taller, more comfortable one. He also replaced the tile flooring with a beautiful new tile that looks like a wooden floor without having to worry about any water damages. He replaced two different faucets for the sink lavatories. The best part is his quote was almost half of what the bigger companies were quoting while being done with better materials. He was very patient and professional with all questions and any concerns I expressed. I highly recommend his company for any bathroom renovations."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

While they’re heavier than their counterparts, cast-iron tubs are very simple to maintain. They have no seams and are durable, making them the easiest tub to maintain. While fiberglass and acrylic tubs are also relatively simple to maintain, they often have seams, making maintenance a little more difficult.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

You can use a new bathtub after 24 to 48 hours. It's best to double-check with your plumber, though, because the time can depend on the type of bathtub installed and special process or materials used. For example, certain sealants need longer to cure, or if the installation involves extensive plumbing work, the plumber might want you to wait.

Installing a drop-in tub yourself is possible, especially if you’re replacing your existing tub with a new one of the same size. If you’re replacing a different type of tub, you’ll need to build the structure to hold the new drop-in tub and finish the exposed sides. The structure must be sturdy enough to hold the tub when it’s filled with water, and you’ll need to seal it. If any plumbing work is required, it’s best to call a licensed plumber who installs bathtubs.
