"Todd did exactly what he said he would. His guys were on time and did a great job. Replacing blown insulation from mitigation for a plumbing leak is more involved than just blowing in insulation. the work was accomplished quickly and professionally. The cleanup was also well done. lI would recommend this company to anyone."

"My installer was very knowledgeable and professional. His team promptly installed the insulation and baffles, as I requested, and tried to clean up afterward. I was already sweeping the garage, so I declined. The cost was exactly as quoted. Would be nice if they made it an option to pay online. (Maybe thatâ s possible now.) There was an immediate improvement in the comfort in the home. I would highly recommend this company."

"I have done business with Alan Webb several times, and I will continue to contact him for any ac/heat problem I may have in the future. He is professional, friendly, shows up at the agreed upon time, knowledgeable, and very reasonable when it comes to the final bill. He goes above and beyond what the job calls for, and I would strongly recommend him to anyone needing HVAC service."

"Unique product making a dent in insulation market. Milex is shaped like packing peanuts so will not settle and compress like blown in insulation. Price was below some competitors we priced. Plus Texas owned company. Definitely happy with how much warmer our home feels."

"Don, from Harper’s Insulation was just fantastic! Don is a first class professional all the way. Don’s assistant was very hard working and always right there to assist Don when needed. They were. Both, genuinely kind and cordial. They finished the job within the stated time estimate and cleaned up when finished. Except for the exceptional installation you could not even tell they had been there. In my estimation of cost for the job I felt very happy with the job performed as well as the price, and would highly recommend Harper’s Insulation to anyone and already have. Thank You so much Harper’s !! Mark McCarty"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

Yes, a fan can help drywall mud dry faster by improving air circulation and reducing humidity in the room. Drywall mud dries through evaporation, so increasing airflow speeds up this process. However, you should position the fan to blow across the room rather than directly on the wet mud. This helps prevent drying too quickly, which can cause cracking. You should also use a dehumidifier if high humidity is an issue.

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.
