"Josh was the tech that came out. He was very professional and clean. He was courteous and on time. He spoke clearly about what was going on with the A/C. He had everything he needed right then and there to find out what was wrong. "Found out I needed to replace 5 ton heat pump on the 16th. I priced 13 other company's within 50 miles of my business. The price for the pump and installation was $1,OOO.OO CHEAPER PLUS the service was 1 day. They had it in stock, didn't have to order it, and I got a 5yr warranty plus 1yr labor. A window AC unit is not completely silent. You’ll hear the sound of air blowing, and if you put your ear right up next to the unit, you may hear a slight hiss or gurgle as the refrigerant flows through the system. That said, if your system is making a running water sound, a loud banging sound, a grinding sound, or physically vibrating, you may be facing an issue or malfunction with your AC unit.

Most units are designed only to cool the house down to 20 degrees less than the temperature outside. This means that if it’s 99 degrees Fahrenheit out and you’re trying to cool your home down to 65 degrees, you’ll notice your AC is struggling. 

Lower the blinds on all your windows, turn on your ceiling fans, and keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature to help your AC do its job. Investing in an HVAC maintenance plan also helps because pros will come out to inspect and tune up your unit regularly, keeping it in optimal working condition.

If your central AC is not blowing cold air, you should try resetting the system. Many systems have a reset button. Make sure your thermostat is off, then turn off the circuit breaker that powers your AC. Hold the reset button for three to five seconds, then turn the circuit back on. Set your thermostat to cool and choose a temperature cooler than the room. Your system should turn on quickly.

While an air conditioner can temporarily run with a dirty filter, it is not recommended as it will not work efficiently. Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.
