It came down to three strong contenders, Riverbend, Advance and Gold Medal Pools. All three had good recommendations and made very professional proposals. The prices for the project ranged from over $100K to $65 for the stripped down version (so yes, there are big differences in price). Riverbend fell roughly in the middle and they were willing to move on price to meet where we wanted to be. Advance (Brian) Pools is a much smaller company, but very competent so would absolutely consider them in the future, but in the case they were not very competitive in terms of the product offering compared to the two larger companies.
In reviewing their proposal, I would highlight following strengths:
- 1/2" Rebar (much stronger than the 3/8" that most pool companies use)
- Very competent in terms of equipment offering (I personally like Jandy)
- Smart approach to plumbing your pool by running pipes through a single trench so they are easier to service
-Design in terms of Spa - recommended a Captain's Chair (4 jet chair) in the spa, which was a great idea.
-Most of the people who would work on your pool are their employees (higher accountability), but still some contractors (ask this question)
-They use dry gunite, which is shot in place (stronger)
-Gravel rock base instead of just sand and they build walls on own footing (not on deck)
Weaknesses:
-They tend to use the cheaper rocks and boulders for copping (Oklahoma River & Flagstone) instead of Arkansas, which is harder
-Hank is a nice guy, but got a bit impatient with us toward the end and was ready to move on to the next customer
-Design was not as good as some of the others (less creative) and they did not have the 3d modeling demo that most places use, which really helps you visualize what its going to look like.
-they push Salt systems, which have more reliability issues and require more maintenance for your rocks and decking
Ultimately, it was a very tough decision and I feel we would have likely been happy if we had gone with them as they are quality company. Interestingly, when we made the decision to go with their competitor I held off communicating to them for a few days in case anything went wrong (which we know can happen) and I never heard from Hank. I would have thought he would contact me to find out what I was doing, but never heard from him. Made me feel a little better about our decision though. I would have shared this feedback with him as well.
Ultimately, I would say they are a quality organization and if you like their design then you could do a lot worse than working with them.
A couple of tips for people building pools:
-Negotiate the sewer and gas reroute into the cost of the pool (unless you are 100% sure its not going to be touched as it will)
-Negotiate ANYTHING you think you want upfront as the day you sign the contract, EVERY change costs you.
-Over estimate your decking as you will want more, trust me. It doesn't cost anything to reduce it later as the cost is 2X once you agree to move forward...
-Review the plans in detail, THEY ALL PROMISE things that don't show up in the plan. Over-clarify and GET IT IN WRITING! They quickly "forget" what they promised to do. I have had to do a couple times already...
-IT will take longer than you think, it always does...6 weeks? No way, 8-10 weeks is far more realistic if its an intricate pool.
-Negotiate any landscaping repair you want UP FRONT, or you will get your yard back looking like a moonscape...they do not replace grass unless you specifically ask in the contract...
-All pool companies try to get as much up front as possible, keep in mind that you want to hold back about 10% to make sure they finish the job. They will push back, but will take the work and you get piece of mind that it gets done.

The sales person was very professional and knew his business. They worked with us on the date and were flexible in that they allowed us to move half one and half the next. They will give you free (used) boxes if you move with them, which will save you money and their people at the warehouse are very friendly. All of the pre-move experience was A+, the rating comes from the day 1 vs day 2 experience.
Day 1: They showed up on time and ready to go with a 5 man crew. They were professional and worked quickly to load our belongings. They moved everything we asked without damaging our belongings or our home(s). They loaded until about 1:00 and then unloaded until close to 6pm. They put the boxes in the rooms as labeled and assembled beds, furniture for us. Great first day.
Day 2: They showed up on time again, but with only a four man crew. The foreman was the same, but clearly he was in a hurry to get us moved and the results reflect it. They loaded up our home until about 1:00 (leaving several things behind). They came to our new house and began unloading. The first couple of hours were ok, but as the day wore on they began to get sloppy. The scratched our furniture, our hardwood floors, and walls. By about 5, they were clearly ready to go (really the foreman was, which impacted the rest of the crew). We noticed that they were starting to put boxes wherever just to get done (we had to tell them to move them and still found them all over the house later).
Post move, they were very professional and have so far fixed all of the damaged furniture (they don't replace, but repair really) so you have to weigh the $500 for insurance. They have repaired the damage to our carpets (cleaned), but have not come to fix the damage to our walls yet (which is too long as our move was a month ago). I think they are basically good people, but would be very aware that the attitude of the foreman will significantly impact the quality of your move experience so to make sure you get a good one and if you sense issues, call their Rep immediately so that things get done correctly.

He arrived and spent all of 10 minutes before he determine I needed a new "drain pump" and said I needed to schedule another appointment to have it fixed and possibly would not be able to get an appointment that week. Once I got permission from my landlord to schedule the actual repair appointment, I called Budget Appliance. I was told by the receptionist that the service technician needed to be called in order to determine if the part was available or needed to be ordered; she said I would receive a call back. THREE DAYS later she called back.... - Remember I am without a washing machine this whole time (over a week). I told her I had already called another company who came out the same day to fix it, with the part in hand (this company also charged me almost 50% of what Budget quoted me and provided excellent customer service). I very nicely let her know it was taken care of, appreciated the call back (finally), and advised her that competition does exist! She then proceeded to give ME attitude for not calling earlier to let them know it was fixed so they weren't wasting their time with the work order. I then explained I had tried to called both the main Budget Appliance number as well as the technician cell number to update them on my service needs, both calls went unanswered. With that, I was disgusted and hung-up. I am very happy this company did not get more than $68 of my money... If they continue with this type of horrible customer service and attitude they will loose business left and right; not to mention the fact that it takes days to get an appointment -- there are other companies who want the work & MONEY much more!!

We had to wait until the next day, but we were told that up front. They found a bad repair job that had failed, (It looked like the water main had been cut when the sprinkler system was installed and the sprinkler company had patched it with whatever they had on hand.)
Jaymar cut out the mess and did a professional repair job. I'm pretty confident the repair will hold for years to come. They even filled in the massive hole I had dug while looking for the leak. (I was trying to find it on the sprinkler system and didn't realize the main was about 6 inches down in the same spot.)I don't know who contacted them, I'm sure they know how to repair homes
Very professional. Repair was completed earlier than expected. Very fair price. I have a few more repairs so I will be doing business with them again soon. Excellent job!

Grade D: Significant damage needing repair, with dark veining and pronounced colors

There are several countertop options available to fit your lifestyle and needs.
Granite countertops are durable and come in a variety of colors.
Soapstone countertops are prone to scratches and best in smaller kitchens.
Marble countertops are less durable than granite but a good option for busy kitchens.
Slate countertops are stain-resistant, making them easy to clean.
Limestone countertops must be sealed often to prevent scratches.
Acrylic countertops cost less than granite while still providing durability.
Laminate countertops are the most affordable but chip and fade faster.
Wood countertops need monthly sealing to maintain.
The cost to install countertops is $3,105 on average. This project cost can range from $400 to $8,500, depending on the material, edging, and countertop size.
Laminate countertops are generally the most cost-efficient, ranging from $8 to $27 per square foot. On the other hand, slate countertops are considered more luxurious and range from $30 to $90 per square foot. There are also countertop materials priced between those two, including stainless steel, granite, Corian, and wood.
