"Installation of insulation was great. Crew was knowledgeable, clean, courteous. Took photos to show all work completed in my attic. Did extra steps, i.e., fixed screen that was hanging on my Eave Vents, secured bathroom ceiling fan exhaust duct work. Extremely happy with the job!"

"Our home is 124 years old. Our plaster is directly on the brick, except for the 3rd floor where we have knee walls that are under the roof lines. We needed to insulate so that we could add guest space because the temperature difference was unbearable, especially in the winter. As we went up the stairs, we could feel a cold layer. I got 3 different estimates and they were all about the same. Our Sustainergy assessor, Lewis, was very professional and personable. I decided to use Sustainergy because they are worker owned and Lewis was very helpful when I called to ask lots of follow-up questions. Lewis warned me that the insulation would only make my space LESS cold, but itâ s done so much more!! Our 3rd floor is now LIVEABLE!! Itâ s no longer the coldest place in the house and areas I couldnâ t bear to be, I am now sitting in and using!! There is no distinguishable temperature change as we go up the stairs. We are so happy we decided to do this and couldnâ t be happier with the service."

"Chris did some tedious insulation work for me in my 140 year old carriage house. He showed up as promised, got the job done and left the place cleaner than when he arrived. His pricing was reasonable. I would highly recommend CJM for any insulation needs!"

"This company cares. They put people above profit. I was in a bad situation, after a nasty winter my roof seemed to be disintegrating before my eyes. It went really fast. Then Daryl stepped up to help me out of a difficult situation. Within hours they expedited the crew, and Walter and Lauren ordered materials and made my roof a priority. Now with three days of rain coming I know my house is protected and it looks gorgeous."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Also known as sound-dampening blankets, acoustic blankets reduce echo in a room. They come in different thicknesses and materials, and they can be nailed or glued to walls.

Buying a house with vermiculite insulation is not recommended without going through a proper testing process. Vermiculite insulation can potentially contain asbestos, which poses health risks when disturbed. While it is possible to purchase a home with vermiculite insulation, you should have it tested for asbestos, and ensure proper containment if asbestos is present. If asbestos is present, you will want to hire a professional to remove it, ideally before you move in.

Doubling the insulation in your home also doubles the R-value of said insulation. In other words, by adding more insulation, you can reduce the heat loss by half. Most homes benefit from increasing insulation. Older homes, in particular tend to have less insulation as is, so doubling your insulation could drastically reduce your energy bills, keep your home more comfortable, and take the strain off your HVAC system.

EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) siding can last from 20 to 60 years, with some properly maintained systems lasting even longer. The exact lifespan depends heavily on several factors, most notably the quality of the initial installation and the consistency of maintenance.

Factors that can shorten the life of EIFS include:

  • Improper or poor-quality installation

  • Moisture intrusion

  • Damage from high winds, storms, or hail

  • Damaged flashing and sealant

  • Lack of regular maintenance and unfixed damage

To maximize the lifespan of your EIFS, it is crucial to hire an experienced and qualified professional for the installation. Additionally, regular maintenance—such as cleaning, repairing small cracks or blisters, and having the system professionally inspected—will help identify and resolve issues quickly, preventing long-term damage.

The benefits of insulating your pipes include preventing freezing, sweating, and condensation. In addition, insulating your pipes can make your home more energy-efficient by keeping your pipes from losing or gaining heat. You’ll be able to turn the temperature of your water heater down by two to four degrees Fahrenheit. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this can reduce energy costs by 3% to 4% per year.
