"The Five Star Painting crew did an excellent job! The sales rep gave us a detailed estimate on the spot and answered all of my questions. The project manager kept me informed when we had a delay due to the weather, and once the work was started they finished it very quickly. We had some wood siding that needed replaced and it they took care of that as well. My wife and I are very pleased with how nice the house looks now. We should have done this years ago! If we ever need house painting, we now have a go to company."

"I worked with Stan White from Iron Buck and I am very happy with the work. He looked over the areas that I wanted painted and read-my-mind when he saw that there were some cracks and seams in the trim that needed addressed. His team caulked the areas that needed it, and repaired a soffit board that had become loose. I had expected a contractor to just come out and paint without caring about other details. So I was very pleased with Stan and his team’s standard to do a complete job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

If you want to achieve a deeper, darker stain color, wait 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. However, wipe it off faster for a lighter tone. When wiping off the stain during this part of the process, be sure to work in the direction of the wood’s grain for best results.

Staining a deck is typically less expensive upfront than painting. The cost to stain a deck professionally averages around $850, with most homeowners paying between $550 and $1,250, depending on the deck's size. A DIY staining project can cost less than $100. The cost to paint a deck ranges from $500 to $2,000. While the initial cost of staining is lower, it's important to consider long-term expenses. Paint can last up to 10 years, whereas stain needs to be reapplied every few years, which could lead to higher costs over time.

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.
