"Brent and his crew did an amazing job! They worked steadily and professionally, always spending the last half hour cleaning up their tools, dragging the area for nails. Brent was quick to respond to the situation and get the job started. The roof looks beautiful! I highly recommend Buckeye State Roofing. Five Stars! *****"

"Christian Construction did an amazing job on re-roofing my home and garage. Rob the owner personally came out to ensure I was satisfied and happy with the installation. The crew that did all of the work were amazing and very thorough and went the extra yard on everything including the flashing, ice guard, drip edge, liner, and venting all to code and beyond. I had a particularly difficult area of transition from a dormer to a flat roof that has always caused issues. The team took extra care to work thru a better design of that area to shed water. Do ask for the foreman "Josh" and his team - he is extremely knowledgeable, detailed, and a very hard worker and leads a great team. I highly recommend them and knowing that they are a local company on the west side, will support and use them again for other work. A+ all the way around."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You should hire a roofing professional to install a metal roof, as it’s an essential part of your home and a difficult installation. Your roof provides the most protection for your home among all of the building materials, and any mistakes made during the installation process can quickly lead to roof leaks, water damage, and significant repair costs. A roofing professional will ensure your new roof is installed properly and according to building code to minimize that risk, and they will usually back the installation and materials with a roof warranty for added peace of mind.

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, wood shakes and wood shingles have notable differences, primarily in their manufacturing and appearance. Wood shingles are machine-cut on both sides, resulting in a smooth, thin, and uniform product. In contrast, wood shakes are typically hand-split or sawed on only one side, giving them a more textured, natural, and rustic appearance. Due to these manufacturing differences, shakes are generally thicker, heavier, and less uniform than shingles. They are also more expensive. Homeowners seeking a more rustic aesthetic often choose shakes, while those preferring a more uniform look may opt for shingles. Both are installed in an overlapping pattern to create a durable, weather-resistant roof.

In most cases, below 40 degrees Fahrenheit is too cold to replace a roof. The cold affects the shingles, making it more difficult to adhere them to your roof. It also becomes dangerous for contractors to get up on your roof in the cold weather, as there can be ice and slush causing surfaces to become slippery.

You may become so frustrated with the look of moss on your roof that you contemplate whether to clean or replace your roof. Fortunately, you don’t have to go as far as replacing it. After cleaning the moss, you can use a chemical solution to keep it away. For further protection, trim branches that overhang the roof, as fallen seed pods and leaves on the roof allow moisture to collect, encouraging moss growth. Consider adding zinc-coated flashing to the roof, too. As rain washes across the zinc, it leaves zinc particles behind that inhibit moss growth.
