"Brent and his crew did an amazing job! They worked steadily and professionally, always spending the last half hour cleaning up their tools, dragging the area for nails. Brent was quick to respond to the situation and get the job started. The roof looks beautiful! I highly recommend Buckeye State Roofing. Five Stars! *****"

"Very Good response when first called. Understood the problems of an asbestos roof and promised quick completion of the job.  Good communications throughout the job.  Workers were all polite and curtious.  There was some lack of communications from the business owner and his work crew.  A couple of minor details were originally missed, but corrected after talking to the foremen.  The only major problem was collateral damage to my house during the removal of the asbestos shingles.  Some screens and a patio roof were damaged due to falling shingles.  The owner responded quickly and a complete settlement was reached.   We are completely satisfied with the comleted work.

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You can install a spray foam roof over shingles, but it may compromise the roof’s protective qualities or shorten its lifespan. Before installing a new roof, ask a qualified roofer if your existing roof needs to be removed before installing a spray foam roof so you ensure your home has quality, long-lasting protection.

Hail damage is bad for a roof because it can leave the roof vulnerable to the elements. Hail may leave more than dents or scratches behind. It can actually cause the shingles to crack, which means water can leak into your home from the roof. Hail can also wear down the granules on the shingles. Without these granules, the shingles are weaker and more vulnerable to the elements, particularly wind. If the hailstorm is accompanied by high winds, it may take your shingles with it.

Gaps between tiles are necessary to help with weatherproofing, allow for thermal expansion, and increase wind resistance. In general, a small gap no larger than 3 millimeters wide will encourage proper drainage and limit cracking. Beyond that, tiles should overlap a minimum of 3 inches, except at the eaves where they should extend to the center of the gutter.

The ridge is the horizontal line where two sloping roof sections meet at the top, forming the highest point of the roof. A hip, on the other hand, is the external angle formed where two roof sections meet and slope downward toward the walls, typically at a lower angle than the ridge. The ridge runs horizontally along the peak and the hip runs diagonally from the peak to the roof's edges.

The lifespan of a torch down roof depends on the number of layers installed. A single-ply system typically lasts between 10 and 15 years, while a multi-layer system with two or three layers can last from 15 to 25 years. Although a multi-layer option may be more expensive upfront, it provides a longer service life. Warranties often reflect this, with about 12 years for a one-ply system and 15 years for a two-ply system. For context, this lifespan is shorter than other common roofing materials like wood or asphalt shingles, which typically last 20 to 30 years, with high-quality versions lasting up to 50 years.
