"I had an excellent experience recently with Deck & Fence Renewal Systems. Brian and Jeremy removed 7 rotted 4x4 fence posts as well as the 2 foot deep concrete plugs in record time. The new posts were installed in the exact same location/height and were perfectly level. They also did a great cleanup and hauled away all the debris. I'll be using this company again for any of my fencing projects!"

"Mike and Jim did an outstanding job leveling, reinforcing and and structurally improving my mother's deck. They made certain that my 90 year old mother could safely navigate outdoors on the deck which is her very favorite place to be! Small jobs welcome

"Joe came to repair my porch. I had said that I wanted to use Lowes Deck Correct but he suggested a product by Sherwin Williams. The Deck Correct will fill in any areas up to 1/4" where his product did not. He is a wonderful man, very kind and professional. I just wish he would have used the paint I wanted."

"George was very eager to understand my end goal and made sure I was happy every step of the way. He’s true to his word and when he knew he wasn’t going to get here at the initial time he didn’t hesitate to call and let me know. I really appreciated that! I asked for specific type of mulch and he made sure he brought what I wanted and had me look at it before putting it down. I started planting a pollinator garden and he saved the day by completing it with his beautiful edging, mulching and design. Thank you again George!"

"Will is respectful, polite and listens to what you want done. My yard has a lot of fill dirt with some large rocks so it made it challanging. He also offered me some advice on how to clean the algae off my house which worked perfectly. Very happy with the deck."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

Increases livable area and enhances aesthetic, often boosting property appeal.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.
