"Bill and his crew arrived at designated time and promptly began the work. They were friendly and polite in addition to being hard workers. They removed vegetation and sprayed so that nothing would grow back, leveled the driveway, laid the new gravel and rolled it for a 70 foot driveway in about 3 hours. We'll probably have them blacktop the driveway in the fall."

"From start to finish, it was a pleasure dealing with Charlie's Paving. I own a campground and had a terrible dust problem due to the roadways being gravel (river rock covered by limestone). Charlie covered the approximately 700 lineal feet and the front parking area with milled asphalt. There were a couple of areas that needed attention after the initial work was done. It took only one phone call for us to set-up a time for Charlie's crew to come out. Unfortunately, due to equipment break-down, they were unable to come as agreed to -- they did arrive the next morning. As I'm typing the crew is re-rolling the entire project and making sure that none of the minor imperfections remain. It should be noted that our payment check had already been cashed, and since we installed milled asphalt, there was no guarantee. I will definitely call Charlie's Paving for our next project."

"They arrived on time and were very careful about cleaning up after the project, however upon closer inspection of the work, I noticed that one bricks was placed upside down and the corner of the step was not square. Plus, mortar was left on the brick faces. I tried for four months to get them to come back to finish the job and they keep promising to come but never show up. Eventually, they did come back and correct the project and finish their work, including cleaning the brick faces. They apologized for not coming back and for not communicating as well as they could have. They said they had several projects out of state to work on. and they were only home on the weekends."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

Yes, using recycled asphalt millings is an eco-friendly alternative compared to concrete. Millings are reclaimed pieces of gravel that are recycled into aggregate that can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

When asphalt cures, it typically changes from a very dark black hue to a lighter, more matte gray color. Cured asphalt also won’t be tacky or sticky to the touch or emit any odors from the asphalt mix. Additionally, the surface of fully cured asphalt won’t deform under any pressure.
