The Installation crew (Rob and his 2 Assistants) were the best! They were cordial, knowledgeable and informed us with every aspect and any changes that needed to be made. They were awesome. You have several options for anchoring a temporary fence, ranging in cost and ease of installation. Sandbags are one solution, but may not hold up if you have inclement weather with strong winds. Spike and bolts are another alternative. While they’re inexpensive and easy to install, it can be difficult if your ground is too soft for in-ground drilling. Wind braces are another option—be sure to bolt these into the ground as well. While they can withstand turbulent wind, they can also be difficult to install if the ground is too soft.

You can use pressure-treated wood for a horizontal fence, but you’ll need to purchase a thicker and higher-quality variety to ensure it doesn’t sag or warp after you install it. Use #2 pine grade lumber and boards and thicker dimensional lumber, such as a two-by-six. You’ll also need to use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners, as the chemicals in the treated lumber will cause regular galvanized fasteners to rust. 

Home insurance policies may cover fencing repair and replacement costs if the damage is caused by covered causes of loss, such as a storm, fire, or vandalism. However, natural wear and tear and damage caused by owner negligence and insufficient maintenance are not covered. The same goes for damage caused by improper installation.

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

In most cases, trees need to be protected from deer all year round. This is especially true if you want to protect small trees from deer or if you just planted some fresh, new trees. Once a tree is a few years old, you likely do not have to worry about protecting it from deer as it will be stronger and can handle a little damage.
