Customers say: True professional

"They were fantastic! Mario is great and so is his crew. They worked very hard removing landscaping, replacing, building a beautiful retaining wall, mulching, etc. My husband and I were so pleased with the company and the end product."

"I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dan Melena. We used Dan for our extensive landscape project when our landscape architect recommended him to us. She said he was an A+ vendor and she was right! From the moment I met with Dan I knew he was the one for the job. He was friendly and approachable while also being professional. His pricing was competitive for the large scale job we wanted him to do. Dan was on site everyday to check on the project and check in with us. We were starting from scratch with a blank canvas so there were many components of the project he had to oversee. The first crew came in to install the drain tiles and work on a drainage system for the yard. Once that was complete the next crew moved in to install the landscape. Everyone on his team was courteous and hard working. They took great care of each step of the plan. Dan was always interested in whether or not we were happy with the work and was helpful with suggestions when we wanted to make a few changes. He recommended a tree service company for us to use to make sure the trees reach their full potential. He is not a one and done vendor. He is interested in maintaining relationships. We look forward to working on phase 2 of our project with him in the future."

"We got a 350 paver patio, firepit and seat wall in our back yard. We also had Chris and team fill in an empty area with weed barrier and creek jack (stone). We signed in July, and was told the calendar had us pointing to an October installation. With a very rainy fall, Chris's team kept getting delayed, but Chris did a great job communicating and discussing status with us. Winter arrived, and we didn't get installed until March, but again, Chris kept us in the loop, and I can't really blame him for the weather. Chris has a large backlog of work because of the quality, care, and craftsmanship of his work. He went above and beyond (adjusted some gutters for us, as well as added a pad of concrete at the bottom of our deck stairs to ensure we were setup correctly). If you want a paver patio, walkway, retaining walls, etc.. done right the first time, call Yanton's, they will do it right. We couldn't be more pleased with the patio."

"Joe was great to work with and his ideas worked beautifully. We could not be happier with the results. We will be using Beacon in the future to light the front of our house once our landscaping is complete."

"Kyle and his crew took apart an old shed that was built to withstand anything nature could throw at it. They worked in the worst heat of the summer without stopping until the project was completed and the yard was completely cleaned up. Everyone was friendly and kept me appraised of what they were doing. You can't go wrong with this group, well worth the money."

"Matt was awesome to work with. He was super responsive and wasted no time coming over to check out what we needed. After chatting about what we wanted, he and his crew got to work and took care of everything we discussed. They really busted their butts! Our yard was a mess after sitting empty for three years before I bought the place, but now it looks fantastic. Matt knows his stuff and gets things done right. Couldn't be happier with the outcome!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

Plant privet hedges at least 1 foot apart in a trench about 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It’s important to space privet hedges relatively far apart due to how quickly they grow to significant sizes and heights. You don’t want to crowd privet plants, or they could overcrowd each other, causing unwanted damage.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.
