"I have just cancelled my service. This is the second year in a row that they have scheduled an aerate and overseed without my permission. I have asked for a two day notice for lawn service and they can't even do that! Last time two times they came to fertilize they yard it the grass was severely burnt. I called and they sent someone to fix the burnt spots, and he acted like he had no idea what he was doing, and of course the issue was not resolved. This company does not have good customer service. I am cancelling all services and will never use them again! "

"Horrible craftsmanship. He did not order the materials as draws were paid, then wanted more money to order materials. Installed a boat lift as part of the project, it was not installed to spec and dropped our boat. The seawall steps have washed out from rain. Left trash, building scraps all over the work site."

Technically, yes—and you may have some successful growth—but this isn’t the ideal way to fill in sparse areas. By clearing leaves and debris, amending the soil, and aerating it properly before you lay the seeds, you’re providing the most ideal conditions for them to germinate.

If your lawn hasn't been aerated in over a year, or the soil is incredibly compacted, do two passes with the aerator. Bahia grass is not difficult to grow, but you might need patience for this slow-growing grass. Whereas some grass species, like Bermuda grass, can take 1 to 2 weeks to germinate, Bahia grass can take two or three times as long, making it seem like it won’t grow. But again, once your Bahia grass is established, it requires little maintenance. Its deep root system makes it a very durable grass that can bounce back after freezes and droughts. 

Some grass types grow better than others on hard dirt. For example, hardy grass types like perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass will grow better on tough soil. Keep in mind that you should still consider your area’s climate when deciding on a grass type.

If you have a healthy lawn, it’s not necessary to aerate it. However, lawn aeration comes with many benefits that can improve lawn health and help you save money on lawn care. 

Aeration makes it easier for lawns to absorb water and key nutrients. It also encourages a strong root system and discourages weed growth.
