"Arete tile did a great job! He did a large backsplash area in our in-law suite and around our master bath garden tub. He was my first reply when requesting an estimate on Angi. Showed up at the exact time quoted for the estimate and for the installs. Very quick about providing the estimate. Very professional, friendly and cleans up good afterward. We will have him back to do another area of tile! Also felt that the price for the job was extremely reasonable! My husband does some construction and handyman work and we will be referring anyone looking for tile work to Arete tile!"

"Dave was right on top of everything. He picked up the sliding patio door for me and installed it. Quality workmanship and attention to detail. He is easy to work with and cleaned up after each visit. I am going to hire him again to paint my great room. I would highly recommend him."

"I called Allen on a Monday to discuss a leak in my roof near the chimney.  He was very courteous and professional, and even though my home was 35 miles from his locatoin, he was familiar with the town and was willing to look at the property to give me a free quote.  I offered to send him photos of the house to give him a better idea of the location of the leak, and type of roofing material etc.  This enabled him to have a better idea of what he would need to fix the problem.   Allen gave me a "ball park" quote over the phone which I felt was more than reasonable, and gave him the "go ahead" to do the work.  Two days later, he arrived as schedlued and completed the work.   While on site, I remembered another leak from my add-on "Carolina Room" and again, he gave me another reasonable quote.   Allen was very knowledable about roofing and knew exactly what had been done (or not done) which allowed the leaks to occur.  He even gave me a guarantee that my roof (the area he repaired) would "never leak again."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Impact, water infiltration, or shifting subfloors often cause damage. Regular inspections help prevent significant issues.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.

Yes, unfortunately, it is normal for wall and floor tiles to crack, especially when you drop heavy items on tiled floors or place heavy objects on them. Tiles are also more susceptible to cracking when ceramic tiles designed for walls are installed on floors, as these are often not strong enough to handle heavy loads from foot traffic and furniture. Similarly, tiles that are installed incorrectly, lack adequate subflooring, or have other installation problems are prone to cracking. To avoid these problems and the inevitable repair and replacement costs they bring, always hire a professional for tile work and follow best practices for installation.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.
