"Used a shop vac to sweep what they did get out, leaving a coat of dust on everything in our living room. Used 1 sponge they wet once to clean. We were quoted $75, with multiple discussions on what they could do. Explained all the $75 was for inspection and sweep from the top of chimney, which we had removed last year. $600 for a deep cleaning and then tried to charge $1200. If this was a deep cleaning, I ll eat my hat. We signed contract with no amount on it."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

You’ll have to look around the house to find different sources of a hidden leak. Check for water under the sinks in the kitchen, bathrooms, and utility rooms. Look at your bathtubs, showers, and toilets, including inside the toilet tanks. Puddles can form around your water heater, so take a good look around it. Inspect appliances like your washer, dishwasher, and refrigerator as well. Look for stains on the walls and ceilings, and listen for drips and running water.

Yes, a pot filler can add value to a home by attracting buyers with its combination of prestige and usefulness. When building or renovating a kitchen, pot filler installation costs can add value without significantly increasing your overall budget. However, it's important to consider the overall design and layout of your kitchen before deciding to install a pot filler. Unlike other parts of the stove, a pot filler may not be used every day. Pot fillers are most appreciated in larger kitchens with a large distance between the sink and stove. In a smaller kitchen with a sink located close to the stove, a pot filler may seem like an unnecessary feature to some potential buyers.

An attic inspection checklist for inspectors can include many things, like signs of water damage and pest infestation, structural issues, damage to insulation and roof decking, air leaks, opportunities to boost home efficiency, and HVAC duct and air handler inspections. If your attic is finished, your attic inspector might also confirm that all of the work was done according to local building codes to ensure your space is legally finished.

Consulting the architect of your house is not the best way to determine when it was built. Many homes are built by developers or builders, so there may not be a specific architect to track down—especially if you have a very old house. Instead, it’s best to rely on local government records.

DIY is not recommended due to specialized equipment requirements. Professional services ensure accurate diagnostics.
