"Mr. Frank Trust and his employee, Toby, were prompt, extremely thorough, polite, professional and so considerate. Due to a leaking garage roof, mold and mildew developed and much of the stored items were destroyed. Mr. Trust and Toby spent about 7 hours cleaning, decontaminating and power washing the structure. They even cleaned, sanitized, wrapped and packed the personal items that could be saved. They did a fantastic job. Mr. Trust is a genuinely kind man. I’ve already recommended him to a friend. Thank you so very much for the service."

"CTG was very responsive, organized and timely on every aspect of their service. As part of a home sale, the buyer asked for us to encapsulate existing asbestos discovered from a home inspection. We needed a quick and complete response trying to help close on the sale of the home. The report (including pictures was received a couple of days after the services were performed. Their pricing was very good especially for the service and quick response. If you need this done...just hire them and get this off your plate."

"Very professional work. They obviously know how to take care of a mold issue. Only problem we had is that we ended up not having a mold issue and we still had a high bill due to all the hourly costs setting up and tearing down their equipment and isolation chambers in case there had been a mold issue. Guess this can't really be helped, but seems like there could be a better way of testing up front to see if you have mold or not."

"HomeSafe Environmental Solutions responded right away. She fully explained the testing process. She was very thorough and methodical and tested in multiple locations in house and outside. Her written report was meticulous and easy to understand. She was using the latest technology equipment. Before I hired her I researched the scope she said she would use and it is the latest detection equipment. Jackie is very knowledgeable, kind, to the point and knowledgeable in the detection processes. I am extremely pleased and highly recommend her services. She is exactly what a home owner needs to discover if their house has lead and save the health of their family. Prices were very reasonable. Thank you!"

"I truly could not have asked for a better company and people to fall into my lap when I was in need of mold remediation services.  Andy did his homework on the issues of my mold problems and dug deep to help me as much as he could.  His thoroughness is out of this world... he is knowledgable in the field and very trustworthy.  His works got a little smudge of paint on my door mat coming into my home... you know where you wipe your feet from all of the worlds YUCK!  When they returned from lunch, they had purchased a new one to replace it, I never even asked... very professional and kind of them to do so!!  The work was completed as advised and the clean-up they did was above what most services seem to do these days.  I was asked to check over the work a couple of times and if I wanted anything revisited they would certainly do so. I am very pleased with the promptness, professionalism and dedication this company has for it's clients.  Thank you so much Andy and his crew for helping me keep my house safe!

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

Professional testing for lead paint costs about $300, ranging from about $250 to $700, depending on the square footage, accessibility, and location. However, testing for lead paint with a DIY home-testing kit costs about $25, but doesn’t guarantee accurate results. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends using a lead test kit that complies with the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule, which has strict criteria for ensuring a more accurate reading.

Common home surfaces to test for lead include:

  • Walls

  • Windows

  • Doors

  • Molding and trim

  • Railings

If lead is detected in a property, steps should include arranging for professional removal or containment, notifying all occupants, and implementing interim safety measures to reduce exposure.

The average cost of a lead paint inspection is about $600, but it can cost as low as $150 or as much as $800, depending on the size of the area, geographic location, and the inspection methods. Some of the most common lead paint inspection methods include:

  • Visual inspection: $150–$400

  • Paint sampling: $200–$600

  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF): $250–$700

  • Risk assessment: $300–$800
