"Deck Renewal Systems delivered a beautiful, quality deck for our home! We are pleased with the outcome. The team was responsive, helped us to select a great material, was able to leverage existing framing (saved us money) and ensured the new deck was reinforced with updated support posts. They even flexed to accommodate our last minute decision to add a patio with another vendor so that the deck and patio worked together. The team was hard working and a pleasure to work with. Definitely recommend if you're looking to add a beautiful deck to your home!"

"We’re happy with the results. Rob was very accommodating, picked up and assembled a shed vs build one at our request. He did a thorough old shed tear down and site prep and hauled away. Good communication throughout. Thank you."

Customers say: Super punctual

"The man who performed the work was great! On time. Professional. Good job. He measured everything from floors to walls for estimates for laminate and paint. Again, he was great!!. I didn’t hear back. He messaged after I texted and said they couldn’t get to me until the following month. But I still didn’t get the estimate. The first time I ever hired a handyman. So just an ok experience."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Handyman does an exceptional job. They are prompt and courteous. They go every the details of your job with you before getting started so you understand exactly what will be done. I had my deck pressure washed and stained and it looks beautiful. It is an older deck and it looks almost like new now! I would definitely recommend them to anyone and will be using them again in the future!"

"

I called Greg for an estimate and he called back promptly to schedule a time. He gave me a thorough written estimate via email. He showed up when he said he would and painted the areas as mentioned above. He was very cautious as to not get any paint or debris on the new carpet. He was meticulous in his work....detail oriented. He prepared all surfaces prior to painting...fixing nail pops etc. He did not expect any payment until the work was completed to my satisfaction. I ended up paying less than the estimate because it did not take him as long as he estimated. He also used less paint than estimated and that was reflected in the final cost as well. I do not know how other painters charge for paint but I know that Greg did not mark up the paint he used. He purchased the paint with his contractor discount but did not inflate the cost for me.

I plan on using Smiley's Painting to do some exterior work for me in the Spring. By the way, he is a one man business and you have to take that into consideration when you seek his services.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.
