"I had storm damage on each side of fence. Other contractors would not fix it but said they would have to replace everything. Acme was kind enough the they took the good fence from the back side of fence and replaced the damaged fence on the east and west sides. Then they installed all new fence along the back side and a new gate. The installers were very kind and courteous plus they cleaned up everything and took all the old damaged fencing. I would recommend them any day. Great team."

You can't build a fence against your neighbor's fence if it touches or is attached to it unless you get explicit permission from your neighbor. Most municipalities recommend building a fence about two feet away from your neighbor's fence to allow access for fence repair and mowing.

Determining the best type of fence to contain your pet can be tricky. Consult a pet fence installer and consider the following questions:

  • What size pet do you have? Some fence types, like chain link, are too short to contain large dogs.

You have several options for anchoring a temporary fence to keep it from falling down. Sandbags can be used as a standard weight, but they may blow away or fail in strong winds and inclement weather. Spikes and bolts are a cost-effective and easy-to-install alternative, but drilling can be difficult if the ground is frozen, too soft, or too hard. Another option is wind braces, which should be bolted into the ground to withstand turbulent wind; however, like spikes, they can be challenging to install in very soft or hard ground.

Generally, the height of your dog fence should be 3 times the distance from the ground to your dog’s shoulder. For most small breeds, a 4-foot high fence will be more than enough to keep them from jumping out. Medium-sized breeds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and German Shepherds will need at least a 5-6 foot fence to stay contained. Large breeds that are also excellent jumpers, such as Greyhounds, may need a 7-foot high fence.
