"I truly regret our purchase of an Acorn chair lift. They are bold faced liars. Before we made our purchase we told the representative that our concern with buying a lift at this time was that we would be moving soon... the rep replied that,” it’s not an issue, we deal with this all of the time, all that we would have to pay was $250 to have it removed, and another $250 for installation and possibly a little more if modifications were necessary to get it into the new home”…awesome, no problem until we moved. When it became time to move the lift we were told that it was close to being out of warrantee; and advised to remove it our self to save the $250, and that when we got to the new place that they would still install it for the $250 therefore, I did what we were told. Now it’s time to install it. We called today and were told that it would cost $400 for a guy to come out and even look and it and then an additional $1000 to install it minimum we may have to pay to, “update our equipment”. And pay a lot more on top of that … Now it seems that the money for that lift was a waste and I will have to either have to try to install it myself, or call a reputable company, that stands behind their work to put in a brand new lift. I will never give acorn business again, and I will tell everyone that I know how we were treated. They will fight to get your business saying that “yes you pay more, but we stand behind their product and our customers”, but when it’s time to help they want to rip you off not that $7000 wasn’t enough.. after this i got the bbb involved and it has been a battle ever since On 11 May 2018 a representative from Acorn did come to our home for this "curtesy check",(only because of the bbb report) when the gentleman arrived he was very professional with us but he was very confused about the work order; and wondered if we could explain why he was there... my wife explained the whole situation that a Jennifer from acorn had made a deal with us that if we were to trade or, "donate", a portion of our stair lift that the work may be done for free(this conversation was with me)... Prior to the arrival of the tech, I did some research and according to a friend who used to install these lifts the rail that we would be getting is priced at approximately $900 and the parts that we would be giving up cost app $3000 so in essence I would be paying $2100 to install the lift that we were promised would be installed for $250.. After everything was explained to the technician he made a few calls and the conclusion was there was nothing that he could do.... According to the report the bbb sent to us stated that we had no communication with Acorn about removal or instillation, my wife and I have both called.. If this was not true why would I have complained to the BBB instead of acorn?? My wife and I have both had conversations with Acorn and constantly given conflicting information... Being honest if we would not have been lied to by our original rep who knew we were going to move and told us how simple the process was to move it. We would have waited to buy the lift until we moved, as we told the sales person, but they lied to get the sale. Now I am going to have to contact another company to fix their mistake. So that my disabled mother can move into our new home at the end of the month. After everything else, I sent an email to the US Vp of operations for acorn, who had been in contact with a friend of mine about the issue and my email was ignored, apparently they are in the business of ripping off disabled people and their veteran son."

Home Staging questions, answered by experts

Professional home staging services can vary widely among properties and professionals, so most experts have customizable packages. Some common services home stagers offer include the following:

  • Furniture and decor rental

  • Set up and take down of rented materials

  • Professional interior design services

  • Decluttering for occupied houses

  • Exterior painting to improve curb appeal

  • Garden bed management to improve curb appeal

  • Minor repairs and home maintenance

You can connect with a professional home stager to see what’s included in their packages or ask for a custom service.

Avoid using a home equity loan for non-essential or short-term expenses like vacations, luxury purchases, or temporary financial fixes. It’s best to reserve home equity loans for long-term investments, such as home improvements, that can add value to your property or financial position.

When built right, fireplaces increase the value of your home. Fireplaces are both functional and aesthetically pleasing; home buyers will usually respond to the charm fireplaces can add. The only scenarios that could lead to a fireplace depreciating a property are the following: if it’s in need of constant or immediate repair, is unusable, or isn’t up to code.

To stage your home yourself, clean your home thoroughly to sell, leaving it gleaming like a five-star hotel. Less is best—always clear away clutter and anything personal so buyers can focus on the beauty of the rooms. Prospective buyers will check the closets, so investing in a storage space may be necessary.

Move furniture around, mix fabrics and decor, and de-cramp the room by removing any unnecessary furniture. A fresh coat of paint always helps, as do natural features like plants.

In most cases, selling a home in as-is condition will lead to a sale price that’s somewhere between 10% and 30% lower than normal. However, it’s often worthwhile to sell at a loss because the alternative would be to pay for the repairs yourself, which could end up costing you more. Even if they didn’t, selling as-is saves you from the time and energy you’d spend coordinating the repairs.
