"This was my first experience with trying to buy a home. Marty was very thorough and honest with his inspection. He was very transparent and helped me understand the process from beginning to end. I could tell he has years of valuable experience. I will be hiring him again for my next inspection."

"Scott did not get appropriate access to the property prior to the scheduled inspection which required us to come back later in the day to complete it. He also, unprofessionally, knocked on a neighbor?s door in his attempts to reach someone with access. His overall report was fine though the photography was not always clear when documenting an issue. The mold inspection was a visual examination not a mold spore test."

"ARW provided us with crawlspace encapsulation and basement waterproofing over 5 years ago and we remain completely satisfied with their work. A new problem arose this past week in a different area for which they responded immediately. Since they were unable to recreate the problem, we are going to watch for a recurrence and will delay any additional remediation at this time. ARW is a completely reputable company for which you can rely on their recommendations. For anyone experiencing cat urine or other disgusting odors in their crawl space, ARW was able to resolve our issue. We have had no problems now for 5 years. We had to walk away from money spent with a well-known foundation company to have the work all redone right. ARW not only resolved the odor issue but fixed a basement leak that the previous company could not solve. If you are considering this type of work, ARW are professionals with many years of experience."

"It turned out well. I used it shortly after I purchased the deal. There were additional charges beyond the big deal amount as I had them repair something that they found while doing it. They did everything as advertised and then in addition to that, they also fixed some molding around the chimney that had become cracked and weathered. I had not used them before. There have been no issues since the service was provided."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

You probably have mold on your shower curtains because mold and mildew thrive and spread in warm, dark, wet, and unventilated spaces. Your shower is the perfect environment, especially the shower curtains, because they trap water in the folds and creases, plus they’re exposed to the most water spray. The best way to ensure mold stays off your shower curtains is to keep it dry so it doesn’t have a place to grow. Doing this can also help keep mold off your bathroom ceiling.

The gasket and drum of a washing machine are ideal spots for mold to grow. They are dark, warm, and humid, conditions that mold thrives in. The products you use to wash your clothing, such as fabric softener and detergent, can also encourage growth by giving the mold a food source.

It’s unlikely your leaves are a hazard, especially if you get to them while they’re dry. However, a couple of rare risks exist. University studies suggest that decaying leaves can produce organochlorines, toxic pollutants similar to man-made PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), so avoid keeping them in an enclosed area.

Also, leaves and compost may cause the growth of fungi that can cause diseases like histoplasmosis and aspergillosis, as well as mold spores that are unhealthy for human lungs. Again, severe issues are rare, but those with compromised immune systems or allergies to mold should wear face masks when directly handling leaves.

Mold is a fungus that typically grows in warm, moist environments, which is why it's so often found in bathrooms, attics, and under sinks. It survives by digesting decaying organic materials, which makes it very helpful for removing dead plant matter around the world. However, if it starts eating away at your drywall, window frames, and flooring, it can harm your home and your health.

Frequently, fungi have a gray color with a powdery or fuzzy texture on a wall. In showers, fungi and mildew may resemble a pink slime. Meanwhile, toxic mold may resemble a fuzzy growth on walls that’s often black or green in color. Some toxic black mold will have specks of orange or white on it. However, not all dark-colored mold you find on a wall is toxic. An infestation of toxic mold often will spread faster than fungi on walls. If you are unsure whether you have toxic mold, reach out to a professional for help.
