"We got everything that we asked for and more. Tru Metal Roofing replaced our roof, built the most beautiful, under roof, deck that I have ever seen. Jake and his crew were very professional and would not leave until they knew we were happy and the job was done right. The work area was even cleaned every day. We would highly recommend them and will use them for any future projects."

I know carpentry so I can rough in your new project, but knowing electric, gas, and plumbing I can also run or repair whatever utilities you need installed or repaired. When I'm done, I can hang and finish drywall but I'm very particular about my drywall finishing. I refuse to do texture because it's lazy unskilled trash and I prefer timed mud so I can the job done quicker which saves you money and gets me on to my next job quicker. I'm incredibly knowledgeable in electrical code, residential electrical is my preference and specialty, and I refuse to do any work that renders any property unsafe. I will include clauses in the contract to protect myself from those who insist on going the cheap route so I can offer the highest quality product while at a MINIMUM meeting code. I will NEVER install a 15 amp receptacle on a 20 amp circuit unless it is downstream of the first 20 amp receptacle on the circuit AND in a double gang. Code may say it's okay to install a 15 amp receptacle on a 20 amp if it's downstream of a 20 amp, but it's still bad practice and I do NOT like doing it. If I find other problems, such as a non GFCI in a GFCI required environment, I will inform you for your safety. While water might be the single most patient and destructive force of nature, electricity is the the single most destructive and dangerous utility and I do NOT take short cuts working electrical. I do NOT use CPVC. CPVC is a menace to the plumbing industry and I in fact have to replumb my wife's house because the CPVC is failing. If you want CPVC, find someone else because I will NOT install that product under any circumstance. I only work with PEX and Copper for supply. Sewer lines will always be the minimum code requirement of schedule 40 PVC. If you want to upgrade, I strongly encourage it if you can afford it. If your project is too big for me to take on, I will not hesitate to disclose up front I don't want the job, but I will offer free estimates for every job.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Whether it’s better to screw or glue drywall depends on your specific budget and project timeline. Professional drywall installers are more likely to use screws and fasteners than adhesives, but it takes longer. But if you are DIYing your drywall installation, glue is a perfectly fine choice if you’re willing to pay extra for adhesive.

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

Yes, 1/2-inch thick drywall is commonly used for ceilings in residential construction. It provides adequate support and is easier to handle and install compared to thicker drywall sheets. Thicker drywall, such as 5/8-inch, is typically used for ceilings in commercial buildings or areas requiring additional fire resistance or soundproofing. However, for most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely accepted.

Before drywall came on the scene, plaster was the material of choice for interior walls. While drywall may be the more cost-effective choice in many cases, plaster may suit your aesthetic preferences better. Plaster walls also tend to last longer than drywall, and are more energy efficient, as plaster has superior insulating properties.

If you plan on heating your garage, you must install a vapor barrier when drywalling the garage. A vapor barrier protects your garage from frost and mold that can occur through condensation. If your garage is unheated, you don't need to install a vapor barrier. The only exception is if you regularly crank the heat in your car before getting in it. In this case, you may still want to install a vapor barrier, as your car can heat your garage.
