"Deck Renewal Systems delivered a beautiful, quality deck for our home! We are pleased with the outcome. The team was responsive, helped us to select a great material, was able to leverage existing framing (saved us money) and ensured the new deck was reinforced with updated support posts. They even flexed to accommodate our last minute decision to add a patio with another vendor so that the deck and patio worked together. The team was hard working and a pleasure to work with. Definitely recommend if you're looking to add a beautiful deck to your home!"

"Brad of Neumeier Associates responded quickly to do the job. He came to my home the same day to provide a quote to paint my garage door, the wood above the garage door and two porch columns 8 feet high. His pricing was reasonable. This was a small paint job of about 220 sq ft. Brad kept me informed of when he would arrive at my home and about project status via text messages. He communicates well and responded quickly to my texts to him. He always showed up on time. The quality of his work is excellent. I would highly recommend this company."

Customers say: Quality work

"Hatton Painting recently completed painting the exterior of our home. Our house has wood siding on the entire second level so there was a lot of square footage to paint. We were very pleased with the results. All the lines were clean and everything looks even all the way around the home. I would recommend them and would hire again."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Very happy with the work done. The two painters were very friendly and professional. They did a great job cleaning up afterwards -- as if they were never here. The amount of stain I was told to buy, however, was excessive. I have almost half of the stain left. But at least I can use it the next time I have to stain. I was told it's hard to estimate how much stain to buy for cedar. If the cedar is dry it can absorb a lot of stain."

"DWT paint was quick in their responses, and they were able to work with my initial limited budget and had proposed a quite quick turnaround time. Unfortunately, I did not get to use them for my house project due to the Coronavirus and time was of essence. I'd give them another chance to show off their work if I have another project coming up."

"CertaPro Painters provided their A+ team of Mario and his crew to paint the outside of our house. In two days, they meticulously painted our shakes, trim, gutters, downspouts, front and rear-porch metal railings as well as our deck. After they were done, I walked around the house with Mario to make sure everything was fine including no paint splatters. Everything looked great. They did an outstanding job and I certainly would hire them again to paint our house. CertaPro provided all of the paint for the job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Beyond liquid rubber, homeowners can use sealants, stains, membranes, or tapes as waterproofing options. Oil-based or water-based sealants soak into the wood, creating a moisture-resistant barrier. Waterproofing stains—available in transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors—add both protection and style to your deck. For heavy-duty waterproofing, deck membranes and waterproof tapes can be applied under the deck boards to direct water away from the structure below. Whatever method you choose, clean and prep the deck first to ensure the best, longest-lasting results.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.
