"Pioneer did an awesome job replacing a large pad and walkway which had sunken 3-4" due to poor installation work by the home builder(Zicka Homes) 20+ yrs ago. They were on time as scheduled, did a great job communicating plans. They were mindful to protect the grass and landscaping. The concrete had to be hauled around back from the concrete truck 200 ' away on the street. Their clean up was spotless!"

"We hired Gridiron Construction (GC) to do our new porch, steps and sidewalk, not because they were the cheapest, but because they appeared the most professional. Darren and the engineer who visited had a professional presentation. By far, GC was the most expensive in price. GC started the job on time and finished in a timely manner. However, the job is not about timeliness or professionalism, but in the final result. I had several computer drawings clearly explaining the job, that I gave to Darren and the head worker. The first issue concerned the most important aspect of the three new steps, the radius and layout. Now I have three new steps that do not match our drawing. The second issue concerned the final broom finish. The final finish is inconsistent through out. There are nice smooth areas and then right next to it is a very rough texture. This was pointed out to Darren but nothing was done. The third issue concerns the final concrete color. I expected a smooth white or grayish appearance, but instead the color is splotchy with light and dark patches that make it look dirty. Even after the concrete was sealed, it looks poorly, like it is years old and needs power washed. We are disappointed in the final look. I feel like we received a below average result for an expensive price. We also have multiple cracks."

Small jobs welcome

"Brock was terrific to work with. Helped us think through the project and make informed decisions about wood vs concrete stairs. The concrete walkway looks great as do the stairs! He even took spare wood from the main project and fixed broken latticework. We will definitely ask him again when we have more contracting tasks to do!"

"If I could give more stars I would. Tim and Christian were very professional from start to finish. Tim answered all my questions and kept me in the loop and Christian and the crew were timely, professional and did exceptional work. I would use CT Decorative Concrete again and I would recommend them to anyone for concrete needs."

"Have had Tri-State do several projects. All have been done quickly and well. Latest was cutting an egress window into a concrete foundation for a lower level walkout. Tri-state had to coordinate several employees to do the job and it turned out great! Along the way they picked up a few smaller jobs and handled equally well. They make sure to do things the right way as well, which I appreciate."

"Anthony and crew did an excellent job in 2 days. 1 day tear out and levelling and 1 day to pour and finish. I opted for fiberglass mixed concrete but he gave an option and per sqft. pricsoft. rear which wasn't that much higher. The only thing was severed sprinkler heads. Will recommend."

Concrete Cutting questions, answered by experts

There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:

  • Are you licensed and certified?

  • How long have you been in the welding business?

  • Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project?

  • How long do you expect my welding project to take?

  • What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?

The average cost for a welding project is about $300, with typical costs ranging from $125 to $490. However, prices can be as low as $125 for very small jobs or exceed $1,200 for large or complex projects. Welders typically charge an hourly rate between $65 and $150, depending on their experience, and many charge a minimum fee to cover overhead and travel expenses. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including labor, the cost of materials like metal rods and shielding gas, the type of metal being welded, the project's size and complexity, and your geographic location. For a precise quote, it's best to ask a local welder for an estimate based on your specific project.

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500

Cutting round ductwork requires precision and the right tools. A duct cutter, specifically designed for circular ducts, is ideal. First, mark the cutting line on the duct using a measuring tape and pencil. Then, position the duct cutter's blade on the marked line. Apply steady pressure, rotating the cutter around the duct. The sharp blade creates a clean, precise cut. Alternatively, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade can be used for larger round ducts. Ensure the duct is securely held in place while making the cut to prevent slips and maintain accuracy.

Yes, but you’ll need reliable steel-cutting tools and safety gear to get started. Shipping containers are typically around ¾ inch thick, so it’s entirely possible to cut through them, but experience and the right equipment are very important. When possible, try to get a container as close to the size you want it as possible.
