"We had a very long retaining wall installed. They removed the old rock wall. The work was done carefully and safely. The finished project is beautiful. I highly recommend Southern Grove Landscaping. I tried to include before and after pic."

"We went to Peabody's annual fall tree sale. We found the size of tree that we liked which narrowed our search to only those trees. Then Mr. Peabody showed us a tree that they had for awhile in above ground inventory. It was mildly damaged, but the tree would out grow it. He offered us a discount and to take care of the damage (i.e. removed a broken limb). The discounted purchase price included planting and staking and carried a 1 year warranty.
Due to weather conditions this past winter, Peobody was finally able to plant the tree this spring. We now enjoy a 20' tall tree in our front yard again. This replaces a mature tree that was blown down 2 summers ago. The tree is surviving this summer heat and didn't even show any shock as plants typically do when transplanted.
We were very pleased with the service, the tree, and the folks we dealt with.

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Unless it only rains once in a blue moon where you live, you’re going to want water-loving plants in your garden bed or pot. A few ideas for plants that aren’t super fast-growing (meaning they’re good in pots or near foundations) and can handle a lot of standing water include:

  • Acorus (Sweet flag)

  • Colocasia esculenta (Taro or elephant ear): In many climates, these are annuals, making them less desirable because you need to adjust the chain again after each replant.

  • Equisetum scirpoides (Dwarf horsetail rush): non-dwarf varieties of horsetail are fast growers and can take over quickly.

  • Juncus effusus (Curly rush)

  • Osmunda regalis (Royal fern): Royal fern can grow quickly but can also handle being crowded, making them good container plants.

A window flower box should be deep enough that there’s room for a wide selection of plants and the required amount of soil and gravel. Standard flower boxes are 8 inches deep and 8 inches from front to back. Larger is better to increase the variety of plants in the box, but you could run into stability issues as it increases in weight.

Yes, adding a pergola can add value to your home and provides an excellent selling point for potential buyers who enjoy outdoor living. Pergolas may have a 50% to 80% return on investment. To add more value, choose a structure made from durable, long-lasting materials and have it professionally installed. Extra features like a motorized roof, smart louvers, and heaters or misters may also give you a better return on investment.

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.
