Customers say: True professional

"We recently remodeled a 100 year-old Craftsman home. We initially discussed the project with Mose Troyer and were very impressed with his knowledge and advice. The project required replacing and replicating a considerable amount of the woodwork. Mose also modified the existing Shaker kitchen cabinets. Modifications included building new cabinets to match the existing ones. He also adjusted several cabinets while maintaining the original look of the cabinetry. Mose also completely built an entire wall of pantry cabinets in the Shaker style. He installed new baseboards and window trim. He rebuilt and repaired existing window trim in several other rooms. Mose integrated the repairs to the point that after painting no one could discern that the sill had been repaired. His work was flawless. In addition, he walled off a doorway and built a bookcase with enclosed shelves in the lower half. He installed 10 new doors with hardware in line with the original style of the home. He also installed two barn doors with hardware. He is conscientious and easy to work with. Without his creativity and craftsmanship the project would never have been as successful and we’re thrilled with the results. Without reservation, we highly recommend Mose for cabinetry/carpentry work."

"I needed a few jobs done here, I can 't remember how I got HHC to come to my home. Anyway, he did an excellent job fixing my door and taking down an old standalone shower in my basement. I definitely would recommend HHC. He was very polite. Mary Mathias Baltimore, Ohio"

"Nick got in touch with me within minutes of posting on Angie’s list for help with cabinet drawer repair. He was able to come out to my house the next day to take a look at the broken drawers and give me an estimate. Told me he would be building the new drawers himself. Including installing the new metal rails. Within just a few days, Nick had come to look at what needed to be repaired or replaced, measured, built new drawers, and installed them. If ever I wanted to recommend anybody, Nick is the person. He did a great job. He is very knowledgeable and personable. I am definitely keeping his number handy as I will likely use him again. And now that I’ve seen his work, I know I would use him first."

"William A. Was very polite and professional texted me to let me know he was on his way, he also came prepared with his tools, he was very pleasant and knew what he was doing. I felt a good connection with him, and if and when I need another job done, I would kindly like to request him again. He did a great job on installing the no dig fence panel! Unable to send photos file was too large. Thanks Happy Customer!😀"

"Another contractor was more professional during the estimating process; Dave's estimate was lower and both had good marks on Angie's. The workman arrived on time and completed the small project quickly and with a minimum of fuss. We received a discount because the work was completed in one day. The workmanship was high quality; the wood used had no knots or blemishes. Although it was only a small project Dave returned phone calls promptly and seemed genuinely concerned that it went well.

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

It is generally more cost-effective to purchase stock or semi-custom cabinets than to have them custom-built. The best option depends on your budget and customization needs.

Here is a breakdown of the average costs per linear foot:

  • Custom Cabinets: $500 to $1,200. The final price is influenced by factors like materials, size, and design complexity. For example, a basic slab cabinet door might cost $60 to $70 for materials, while a more intricate mullioned glass inset panel door can range from $100 to $200 per door.

  • Semi-Custom Cabinets: $150 to $700.

  • Stock Cabinets: $100 to $400. These are pre-built and the most affordable option, but they offer limited customization and may not be suitable for rooms with unusual shapes or high ceilings.

If your walls aren’t plumb, it can make installing frameless cabinets difficult because they require precise measurements so they don’t show imperfections. Any dissymmetry with installation can cause the doors and drawers to not function correctly. Frameless cabinets are also thicker and heavier, making them harder to install by yourself.

How much cheaper it is to replace your cabinet doors depends on your needs. If you’re looking to spruce up the look and feel of your kitchen, then you can make cosmetic adjustments to your existing doors, like installing new knobs or a fresh coat of paint. Cabinets can be some of the most costly parts of a kitchen remodel, but if there’s structural damage regarding your doors, then replacing them is your best option.

Most built-in bookshelves are custom-made to fit the available space and meet a homeowner's needs. This level of customization allows you to design the exact look and functionality you desire. However, you can buy cheaper, prefabricated bookshelves to slot into your desired space. However, prefabricated designs might not slot in as snuggly or need to be adjusted to fit.

It is typically cheaper to buy stock or semi-custom cabinets than to build custom ones. The price difference is significant:

  • Custom Cabinets: Cost between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot. This price is affected by materials, size, design complexity, and door styles. For instance, a simple slab door's materials might cost $60-$70, while a decorative mullioned glass door could be $100-$200.

  • Semi-Custom Cabinets: Cost between $150 and $700 per linear foot.

  • Stock Cabinets: Cost between $100 and $400 per linear foot.

While buying pre-built cabinets is more cost-effective, building custom cabinets allows for full modification to fit unique spaces, such as rooms with high ceilings or unusual layouts, which stock options cannot accommodate.
