"Leonard at Old American Cabinet built and installed my family’s kitchen cabinets. He also did the flooring and backsplash. The kitchen remodel is beautiful. The work has greatly improved the value of our home. The house is old and the kitchen is now the best looking room in the house. It is also the only room with gorgeous crown and lower moldings. We are considering getting moldings for the rest of the house."

"Finding a service who would come to London, OH was not easy. However, the folks at Apex 1st were quick to answer my message. Scheduling through their online portal was easy. On the scheduled day, Kyle called to let me know when to expect him. He was right on time. The carpets hadn’t been cleaned in a long time so I wasn’t expecting much. Kyle took extra time and even re-treated the high traffic areas to get out the walked-in grime. When he finished, I was amazed at how good the carpets looked. I would absolutely use Apex 1st again."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Completing reupholstery projects in Lancaster offers immediate comfort and a refreshed look, while also preserving the unique character of your home. Over time, quality furniture restoration extends the lifespan of your pieces, supports local craftspeople, and helps maintain property value. Choosing to restore rather than replace is a sustainable option, keeping cherished items in use and reducing environmental impact in the community.

Helpful?

In Lancaster, living room sofas and armchairs typically need reupholstery first due to daily use. Dining chairs and home office seating also show wear, especially with increased time spent at home. Sun-exposed furniture fades faster, while basement and porch pieces face moisture challenges. Children’s furniture and vintage pieces often require durable, stain-resistant fabrics or restoration to maintain both function and appearance.

Helpful?

In Lancaster, upholstering or reupholstery projects rarely impact major home systems, but it’s important to check for built-in seating with integrated lighting or outlets, as these may require an electrician’s input. When moving large furniture, consider your HVAC vents and airflow—temporarily relocating pieces can affect room temperature. For historic homes, inspect built-ins for structural integrity to avoid issues during furniture restoration or removal.

Helpful?

During furniture restoration in Lancaster, unexpected costs can arise if hidden damage to frames or springs is uncovered after fabric removal. Specialty fabrics or custom foam for reupholstery might need to be ordered, which can add delivery fees, especially in rural areas. Antique furniture often requires extra care, and seasonal demand may affect scheduling, so plan ahead to avoid delays or last-minute adjustments.

Helpful?

The age and layout of your Lancaster home influence your upholstering choices. Older homes may have narrow doorways or original built-ins, requiring careful planning for furniture removal or restoration. Newer properties allow for modern fabric options and updated techniques. If your home lacks central air, opt for moisture-resistant materials, and always select upholstery fabrics that match the room’s foot traffic and intended use.
