"We previously had our lawn and plant bed installed the previous year with a different landscaper. There was significant settling around the perimeter of the home and a good portion of the front yard. The lawn itself did not come in very well and has had quite a bit of weeds establish. Virtuoso was hired to regrade the front yard, add more top soil throughout, reseed, and fix our plant bed. We needed to have the vertical position of our irrigation system heads in the plant bed adjusted but Virtuoso worked with us and came back out for another visit to finish the plant bed adjustments. They also performed an overseed a couple of months after the lawn install to account for areas that did not take very well due to some washout. Virtuoso's work combined with proper watering and following up with our own lawn fertilization/soil amendments, our yard is looking relatively great."

"I highly recommend Dan and his team at Beautiful Basements! During the initial call, Dan clearly explained the estimate and planning process. After the first visit, he provided an itemized estimate and diagram of the project. Dan was also very responsive when I would reach out with questions/concerns/changes to the plan. The team was friendly and professional, well organized, and cleaned up after themselves. They also provide a designer free of charge that gave us excellent recommendations on carpet, paint color, bathroom tile, etc. It was also convenient that the team at Beautiful Basements includes a plumber and electrician. We couldn't be happier with the result, and the overall price was similar to other estimates we got. If you're planning to finish your basement, you can't go wrong with Beautiful Basements!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Glass tile can cost as much as or more than other durable tile types. When choosing the right tile for you, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each can help you make an informed decision. The pros and cons of glass tile include:

Pros

  • Light-reflecting to add brightness

  • Waterproof and mold-resistant

  • Made from recyclable materials

Cons

  • High cost compared to similar and more durable materials

  • Usually requires professional installation

  • More easily scratched compared to materials like ceramic and porcelain

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

Grout lines should typically be between 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick. This ensures enough room for the grout to dry properly and makes them wide enough to look clean and professional. If grout lines are too small, it can be easier to see imperfections in the spacing.

Yes, cracked tiles allow water to seep through the substrate or subfloor, leading to mold and mildew growth. It can also cause severe structural damage. At the very least, water damage can cause your tile to lift from the substrate, meaning one cracked tile can lead to several cracked tiles. It’s a good idea to waterproof tile in areas with direct water exposure or lots of moisture.
