"Last winter my arborvitae hedge was badly damaged by heavy snow. This week Cory from Set Apart Tree service carefully pruned and trimmed it. Within one hour I was pleased to see it beginning to look attractive again. Using pruners and loppers (no chainsaw) he removed heavily damaged branches and lightened drooping branches so they could stand straight again. The hedge is now airy and natural, still high enough to provide privacy, and healthy enough to regain the strength needed to withstand the snow next winter. I have a garden growing alongside the hedge, planted with many perennial and annual plants. Cory was able to work without damaging them! I would use Set Apart Tree Service again."

"I requested a quote from a few professionals that were recommended through the Home Advisor website. Robert’s Tree Service responded to my request within sixty seconds. It was after four thirty in the evening when we spoke yet he agreed to come by that same day to look at the job. He gave me his estimate within ten minutes. The job was “weather dependent” and when the day came i doubted he would be able to do it. Shockingly he came out as agreed and had the job finished by the time i got home. His promptness and professionalism are top tier. 100 out of 100 recommend this company"

"I had my sewer pipe replaced in my front yard in February. I called Nick and he walked me through the process of what needed to be done. We waited roughly 3 months to let the dirt settle and finally have nice weather to complete the job. Nick and his crew did a great job rototilling and leveling all the dirt in the yard and tree lawn. He also gave me advice on planting grass seed and fertilizing the yard. I would recommend Nicks Four Seasons Services for lawn care and maintenance."

"So happy that I hired Cedarwood Tree Service, they were so easy to work with and very professional. Gave me a few options and explained each one in its entirety so that I was able to choose the option best for me. They did a great job on removing 2 trees that I needed out of my yard. Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Dorner and his team did an excellent job of cutting down and removing several very large trees. The team was courteous and professional, and they focused on the job until it was completed. They arrived on time, early in the morning and did not quit until late in the evening, when all the trees were gone. ADOS will be my first call next time we require their services."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You will know that an oak tree needs to be removed when you see vertical cracks or dead branch stubs, which indicate internal decay. Other signs include trunk rot near the base of the tree and sprouts or small branches coming from the trunk.

Hiring an arborist or tree surgeon is usually more expensive than a standard tree company, but it is often worth the investment. Arborists have education and certifications that standard companies typically lack, leading to a more professional, expert-level service. Their expertise is particularly valuable for diseased or infested trees, as they can ensure safer removal and help prevent the issue from spreading. Additionally, arborists may be necessary for work near power lines, as uncertified companies are often not permitted to service these trees. If your goal is to preserve the health of your trees, an arborist is the best choice. Their services, such as stump grinding, are also performed with greater expertise to ensure a safe depth that won't cause your lawn to collapse over time.

In the short term, you’ll have a lot of fallen trees to deal with. Tree removal services costs typically start at $200 per tree and increase based on species and size. Then, you’ll have to deal with the loss of trees: That means a loss of shade and a greater risk of rain runoff and erosion. Also, you’ll miss out on the health and aesthetic benefits of having trees on your property, which could even affect the resale value of your home.

That being said, cutting down a tree it’s not always a bad idea. Trees growing too close to rooftops can present fire hazards or debris problems. You may need to remove diseased or dying trees to prevent future issues.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Palm trees will not regrow from a stump once the tree has been cut down. This type of tree is unique because the root and stump system will slowly decay after the tree is gone, unlike other species that can regrow. That’s why it’s preferable to remove dead or decaying palm tree stumps quickly as they can become an eyesore and don’t offer future growing potential.
