"Tommy was on time for his 30 minutes appointment window and went straight to work. I initially purchased a replacement garbage disposal with install via the Angie's List to replace an 18 year old unit that was original to my condo. Tommy had it swapped out and tested in about 15 minutes. He also found a leak within the sink faucet that was dripping into the cabinet below and was able to replace two O-rings within the faucet that stopped the leak. The faucet repair was only $35 since he was already there. He offers a 90 day warranty on his labor if you find any leaks or drips and the disposal comes with a two year warranty. I would recommend Tommy and would use him again."

"It went very well.  There was a very quick response to my deal purchase.  I really did not know what to expect since I had not purchased one of the deals before so I was pleasantly surprised by the quick scheduling and the overall response and workmanship.  Actually the installer had to return today on the 7th for a quick update and he and his partner were very kind and quick to help.  This company and the owner are very committed to making the customer and their needs first priority.  Very easy to work with, and that is very important these day.  I highly recommend Dublin Plumbing and I would call them again for other plumbing needs.  Give them a call.  They can help.

"Gary returned my initial phone call promptly and came by soon after to inspect the space. He sent me an estimate within 3 days and once I accepted, scheduled the first work day. Gary and his assistant arrived on time and got right to work. Over the course of several days I observed that Gary and Forrest were detail oriented, didn't take shortcuts, and we're very concerned with doing things correctly and well. On the first day, I added to the scope of work and Gary easily agreed to the additional work and got me an estimate for the new work. They worked at a steady pace, didn't take breaks, and organized all the debris for disposal. Gary is an awesome contractor and I am already planning my next project for him.

"They sent 2 young gentlemen to my house. They did not finish the job. We called them back later that night. One of the gentlemen did come back and fix the issue of reconnecting the sink. A few weeks later we realized that the stop plug was not installed correctly. Its a small thing right now, but it has still not been taken care of."

Install Garbage Disposal FAQs, answered by experts

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.
