"VERY highly recommend!!! My husband and I recently hired Contemporary Inspection Services and we could not be more pleased with their work! Phil was very friendly and responsive to my initial request, as well as throughout the entire process. As he worked on the inspection, Phil explained things patiently and politely, answering my many questions. Later that same day, Phil sent us the inspection report, which was clear, concise, and thorough. Areas of concern were explained in detail and accompanied by either a photo or a video to make sure that we understood the issue. Phil even offered to answer other questions should they arise. We are very impressed with the work of Contemporary Inspections Services!"

"Very well. I couldn't find the recommended product at two local stores, but I was able to order it online for a reasonable price. The process for using the product was just as described and didn't take very long. I'm pleased with the results. I really appreciate getting good advice for free, and if I ever have a larger problem, I'd contact Dutch's Mold Inspection again. I will also keep the contact to refer to others."

"I've been very frustrated with a recent roof replacement. Brian came today, inspected the attic and the roof. He then explained what he found and offered some solutions. He was very patient and took the time to explain the issues to me. I highly recommend him."

"The sales rep Tim was very professional and patient with me. Throughout the sales process he listened to all my concerns and explained the process from beginning to end. I know that I would have problems with wood replacement and tim made sure to make note of that. During the install there was a miscommunication with the crew and that lead to inadequate wood repair in the beginning. At this point I called the project manager Walter and explained the situation to him. Shortly after Walter came to my house with the field manager Mike and they both did a more thorough inspection of the wood repair and we came to the solution that best fit my home. After the wood repair incident everything went very smoothly. The crew worked very hard and did beautiful work after they took care of the newly installed wood. Overall the experience good. There was a problem but the way the company responded was great and I was very happy with the final outcome of the project."

"6 Stars! A+ Above an Beyond, Highly Recommended. I got a mold inspection and Alex went through every room, inch of crawl space, and attic to check for anything. During his observations if he noticed any other potential problems like with the HVAC, roof, wiring, etc, he would bring them to my attention. He wasn't trying to get more work for himself but simply identifying areas of possible concern. He explained the steps that should be taken for some repairs and explained to me how I can do some myself. He even went over how I should approach the insurance company. You can tell that he is very knowledgeable and can very quickly and easily describe anything he is seeing or address any concerns."

"Steven Shine came to our home to perform an inspection as we suspected we had a mold problem. He spent an hour in our home; fully inspecting our basement and our attic. He was very thorough and honest explaining to us that we did not have a mold issue. We were impressed by both the time he spent and his honesty and highly recommend this company."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most cases, you can negotiate and make a counteroffer after a home inspection. If the inspection reveals issues with the property, you can use these findings as leverage to reduce the purchase price. Your counteroffer should account for the estimated cost of necessary repairs, and it's important to find a reasonable balance to increase the chances of the seller accepting. The main exception is if you waived the home inspection contingency to make your offer more appealing. In that situation, while you can still have an inspection done for your own information, you have no contractual recourse to make a counteroffer based on the results.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

The only way to determine if you have a radon problem in your home is to have professional testing done. You can buy DIY radon test kits, but these are sometimes inaccurate in certain temperatures and humidity levels, and they don’t paint the entire picture in terms of your radon exposure. Scheduling testing once every two to five years is best. You can also look out for the following symptoms, which, according to the American Cancer Society, are symptoms of radon exposure:

  • Shortness of breath

  • Cough

  • Tightness in the chest

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Hoarseness

You can check your home's humidity in a few ways. A simple option is to use a hygrometer, which you can find at a hardware or big box store. Your smartphone may also have an app that can measure humidity. Modern thermostats, particularly smart thermostats, are also able to measure humidity levels.

There are a few key differences between wind mitigation and four-point inspections. Wind mitigation inspections focus on a single aspect of your home (its ability to withstand high winds). In contrast, four-point inspections assess multiple parts of your house (roofing, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC). Despite this, wind mitigation and four-point inspections cost about the same amount.
