"Everyone was friendly and professional. Would hire again. Only nit to pick was that they messed up the walls a bit, but it was a huge amount of work and they had to maneuver a lot of pipes around, so all things considered I'm not worried about it. They are not cheap, but when the work uncovered some other issues that needed to be addressed, they quoted what I thought was a very reasonable price, when they could easily have squeezed me for extra money."

"Tri-County Electric Services was able to send a plumber out the next day to provide estimates for a few projects in my home. Chris M. arrived at my home and was professional, knowledgable, straight forward, and friendly. He quoted me fair prices to install a new toilet and new kitchen faucet, both of which I had previously purchased independently and had at home ready to install. I was very happy that he was able to complete the installs that day. He also fixed a minor leak below a bathroom sink. All around a great experience! I will definitely hire them again for future plumbing needs. Chris explained that the company recently added a plumbing division to complement their electric services. Thank you for a job well done!"

Small jobs welcome

"Clogged Kitchen Drain and Gas Shut-off Valve: Terry the Plumber is Honest - they don't try to sell you services you don't need. A prior plumbing company told me my main sewer line was collapsing, hoping I'd hire them to replace the main line for thousands of dollars. Terry the Plumber checked it out and said it wasn't collapsing. Pays to have a second opinion. The kitchen line, with an old galvanized drain was rotting and clogged with grease from 75 years of use (it was the original.) They replaced drain with a PVC pipe, installed a handy clean out and completely snaked the rest of the drain in the floor out to 45 feet (the other company only used a 22 foot snake.) They also returned the next afternoon to replace a corroded and frozen gas shut off that I needed done. Took them less than 15 minutes. Terry and his assistant work quickly and don't waste time. Terry has several decades of experience and it shows. I will definitely hire them again for other plumbing projects. The only real complaint I have isn't with Terry the Plumber, but their answering service (Plumbing Services). Called after hours to check time when Terry would be arriving. It was holding over two minutes with no one picking up, so I hung up. Oddly, Terry showed up just 5 minutes later. LOL! Terry the Plumber is great! Prices are reasonable, too."

"For the last 26 years we've lived in a house that is now almost 60 years old. The contractor built it as cheaply as possible and the plumbing has always been problematic. We've used other local plumbers who were very good, but Allen Drain Service is the best of the bunch. On both occasions they arrived on time and were in and out within 45 minutes. Very friendly and professional guys. Cleaned up afterwards and gave us tips on how to minimize problems in the future. They charged what seems to be standard in our area for this type of service. I hope I don't have to use them again, but I know it's not a case of "if" but rather than "when." So. when it is necessary to clean out the drains again, they'll be who we call! Recommend them highly. (Angie's List members get a $5 discount.)

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

The nice thing about outdoor water spigots is they last on average 10 to 20 years, depending on the model that you have. If you do happen to see any type of issue outside of that range, investigate the cause and what needs to be fixed to prevent further damage to your pipes or your home.

You can use PEX pipe underground, and it will hold up well in underground insulations. Keep in mind that PEX tubing is not rated for outdoor use and that insulation is necessary in regions that experience cold winters. When using it underground, you should also bury PEX piping at least 12 inches below the frost line.

The average lifespan of plumbing ranges from 20 to 100 years, primarily determined by the pipe material. For example, PEX piping can last 80 to 100 years, while copper and cast iron pipes have a lifespan of 50 to 100 years. Other materials like CPVC, brass, and steel typically last between 50 and 70 years, and galvanized steel pipes have a shorter lifespan of up to 50 years. The longevity of any pipe material is also affected by factors like soil acidity, extreme temperatures, and proper maintenance, which is crucial for ensuring a long service life.

For easy-to-access pipes, your plumber will shut off the main water line and replace the pipes without demolishing your property. Underground or difficult-to-access pipes require different approaches. There are two ways to replace underground cast iron pipes: trench and trenchless sewer line replacements. Trenchless replacements result in minimal damage to your yard and involve bursting pipes and replacing them with new ones via an access point.

While freezing pipes are less of a concern in warmer climates, pipe insulation can still be beneficial because it helps prevent condensation on cold water pipes, reducing the risk of moisture-related issues like mold growth. It also helps maintain water temperature, reducing the energy needed to heat and cool the water, which can ultimately lower your utility bills.
