"Darren is a very highly skilled person when it comes to knowing how to correctly do the job how to run equipment. We had him dig our basement for our new home. He did an awesome job and had so much knowledge. He knew how much to over dig in order to easily set forms, exactly where the lower frost footer needed to start and exactly how much deeper it should be. The owner of the company who was pouring the concrete came to look at the basement site stood there for a minute and then asked if Darren had dug my basement!?!? After telling him that he had he walked back to his truck saying there was nothing to worry about! There are plenty of people who can â  digâ  but very few people are good enough to leave their signature on their work by how well itâ  s done"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

The best way to stop your pavers from sinking is to ensure you've properly compacted the base layers. Use your paver compactor and work over the base layer several times to create the hardest possible base. If the soil and sand of your base are compact, you’ll experience less shifting and sinking.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.

Permeable paving is a good option for a lot of reasons. It can help prevent flooding, keeps harmful chemicals from polluting our water, and can divert water away from your home’s foundation. Plus, it can add a rustic aesthetic to your outdoor area, might prevent pests who breed in water, and may even qualify for tax rebates.

Interlocking pavers offer a number of advantages over regular pavers. For instance, they’re more durable, more resistant to shifting, and easier to repair. There are also permeable options that allow for drainage. However, interlocking pavers are more often more expensive than regular pavers and are prone to growing weeds over time.
