"Tom helped us transform our boring cement slab into an awesome stamped patio overlay. He went above and beyond and even came back out to reapply a sealer after there was an issue with the manufacturer's product. I would highly recommend to anyone!"

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

When properly installed and maintained, concrete floors can last from 50 to 75 years or more. The longevity depends heavily on the finish and maintenance routine. For example, polished concrete floors can last 50 years or longer but require periodic refinishing or resealing every 5 to 20 years, depending on foot traffic. To maximize the lifespan of any concrete floor, it's crucial to have it installed by a licensed professional, ensure it is properly sealed to prevent damage, and perform annual deep cleanings.

Unlike staining concrete, painting concrete often results in chips and peeling over time. You can expect numerous touchups over the years if the concrete is in a high-traffic area. Since concrete paints are opaque, you may also find it more difficult to get the exact color results you want. Lastly, painting concrete can make it much more slippery unless you mix in an additive for traction.

Evenly wetting a wood floor before applying a stain is called water popping. It raises the grain and opens the wood’s pores to absorb more stain. When done properly, it can make the stain look darker and deeper. However, it’s important to evenly wet the floor and let it dry before applying the stain.

Unlike paint, concrete stain won’t peel off. Instead, the color absorbs into the surface of this porous building material. While it doesn’t peel, the stain only penetrates the top layer of concrete, and as the top of the concrete eventually wears away, so will the stain. However, this process is much slower than paint peeling, especially on low-traffic surfaces.

DIY is possible for small areas. Professional installation ensures proper leveling and finishing for durability.
