Small jobs welcome

"My experience with this company has been amazing! My home was damaged by a fierce tornado and I wasn't even sure they could restore it. They did that and then some! They're reliable, timely, efficient and do great quality work. My home has been restored and it's even better than it was before. Highly recommend! In a day where it's hard to find great help and reliability at a fair price, you'll find the best in B and J contractors."

"Very professional/high quality work crew (Bill & Aaron) that was also very easy to get along with. Company uses their own personnel (no outside/sub-contractors) Tareck (Designer) is well organized, is a good communicator and has a good sense of interior design Project was well-quoted, completed on-schedule and was competitively priced. I highly recommend this contractor for bathroom renovations."

"Inspection had been rescheduled by Rock Roofing due to lack of availability. When I arrived home at the time of the appointment, the inspector was already on the roof. The inspection was only from the outside. The inspector's verbal report to me following his inspection was that the roof was "solid." I pointed out water damage that I had been getting in a corner of the enclosed porch. He looked at it and told me the damage wasn't coming from the roof, and made not attempt to identify the issue. With the heavy rains this winter, the "solid" roof leaked. The water damage identified on the enclosed porch was indeed coming from the roof, specifically a leak in the dormer above the porch. This I discovered myself during the rain when, examining the roof from the above crawl space, I could see the water traveling down the beam on either side of the dormer into the crawl space above the porch, and dripping down onto the porch ceiling below. At the time, I had made several attempts to contact Rock Roofing via telephone and email, but have received no reply. I have since hired another roofing contractor to make the repairs that Rock Roofing failed to identify."

"When we decided to redo our kitchen in April of 2012, we knew what we wanted fixed, our budget and that's about it. We started talking to contractors, kitchen design centers and researching ideas. We quickly realized we were in WAY over our heads. A lot of places offer free design services if you buy all of your materials through them. We didn't want to be tied down. We didn't want a complete tear down to the studs, either. Homemade Design to the rescue! First of all the price was an absolute steal for the service provided. Amanda and co. Listened to what we wanted and came up with inovative, functional and beautiful solutions. Our house is old. We wanted to keep that 1920s feel, but still have a dishwasher, granite countertops and stainless appliances! Amanda had the brilliant idea of only replacing the bottom cabinets. She also gave me excellent instructions on how to refinish my existing cabinets so they look like new. This was a perfect solution for US. Homemade Design gave us ideas for layout, cabinets, lighting, wall paint, appliances, furniture, countertops, backsplash, faucets, sink, and cusions for built in. She would have recommended flooring if we wanted, but we didn't. Now, Amanda is more like a consultant...( I actually called her my kitchen remodel therapist). You still are ultimately responsible for the plan and what works for you. If your measurements are off (like mine were) that's on you. I was adament about no island and no microwave over the stove and so she didn't put those in the design. Some suggestions were not my style. And I said so. Honestly, if I picked out my own kitchen it would be so safe: white subway tile or something. Amanda gave me the guts to mix patterns and create something spectacular! It took almost a year to complete ( contractors fault) We did a lot of work ourselves. We bought the cabinets, backsplash tile, light fixtures, table and banquette cusions through Homemade Design at a great discount, we checked!! If you try shopping for any part of your kitchen, the volume of choices can be overwhelming. We loved having Amanda narrow it down for us. Communication was through email, mostly. She never took longer than three business days to respond to my million questions or concerns. Awesome. 5 months later, my kitchen is a dream come true. And I owe it all to Homemade Design!

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.
