"We hired JB to put in a short driveway and repair some broken concrete in front of our garage. It was a joint project with the next door neighbors, who also needed their bluestone sidewalk replaced with concrete in order to make a workable driveway. I asked if I could have the salvaged bluestone. JB took care of the city permits, and the workers were there at 8 AM, prying up bluestone and piling it neatly in my back yard. The driveway looks great."

"I had Liberty NY (SONNY) quote me for demolish and then rebuild my backyard brick stoop and also, remove and replace a cracked . step on my front stoop. He quoted me a GREAT PRICE with a guarantee of 1 yr. His crew (Mr.Singh and Bollar) were the best masons and bricklayers you could ever wish for. Very fast, careful and professional. They arrived on time on a Sunday at 9am and completed the demo, rebuilding the rear stoop with limestone steps, replaced the front stoops' broken step and FULLY CLEANED UP by 3:30. Brick spalling—which refers to the crumbly, flaky, or pitted appearance that can develop over time—is caused by a few different conditions. These include:

While you can’t do anything about the weather, you can preserve your bricks by cleaning them with soapy water and a good old-fashioned scrubbing. Pressure washers may be satisfying to use, but they can eventually wear away the surface of your bricks. If you don’t have advanced-level DIY skills in masonry, you can hire a reputable masonry contractor in your area for your project.

When painting brick, each application method has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Spraying is significantly faster but may not penetrate deeply beyond the surface layer. Rolling is effective for working paint into the brick's texture but can be less effective on mortar joints. If you opt for a roller, choose a thick nap of at least a half-inch to ensure paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage. Using a brush is generally not recommended as it is very time-consuming and provides poor surface penetration. Ultimately, a combination of spraying followed by back-rolling is often the best strategy for a durable and even finish.

Initially, brick staining is not cheaper than painting. However, while it has a higher up-front cost, it may be more cost-effective in the long run. Brick stain can last for 20 years or longer, compared to paint, which usually starts to peel away in three to five years.

Technically, you can make cobblestone from almost any type of rock, but if it is weather-resistant and stands the test of time is another question entirely.

However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.
