Customers say: Terrific value

"We had a dry well installed in our egress window well by another company a couple of years ago. But last month we had several days of heavy rain and our basement flooded again. The other company wouldn't show up to look at it so we called Jack Basement Man Brady. He brought his crew over two days later, found, and fixed, several deficiencies in how the dry well had been put in, and added a sump pump as extra protection. He also made some other improvements to keep the rainwater away from our foundation. Jack and his team were very thorough and the price was reasonable. He explained everything in great detail, maybe too much detail sometimes, and made sure we understood why he did everything. Also, it rained hard again a few days later and the dry well held up but we noticed a leak in a different spot. Jack came back and fixed that too, at no extra charge. We would highly recommend Jack for any basement flooding projects."

"We were extremely happy with the work performed by H&M. Moises, Hector and crew were courteous and did whatever needed to please us. They did most of the renovation in our condo......painting, installation of bathroom cabinets, sink, installed tile floor, etc. They also installed vinyl flooring in our kitchen, living and dining rooms. They had a plumber replace our heating baseboard, I would highly recommend H&M if you want excellent work done!!"

"Every time it would rain the side of my yard would flood and get into my house. A close friend recommended Napolitano Brothers Contracting. Jim, James, and Michael Napolitano were great to work with. They installed a exterior drainage system and also water proofed the side of my house. After, I hired them to do a paver patio and driveway, both of which I constantly get compliments. I am glad to have found them!"

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

No. You should dispose of all oil-based finishing products through a local hazardous waste program. Not only can oil-based finishes be hazardous for the environment if disposed of in the sink, but they can cause clogs in your pipes and stop up your drains. Most municipal garbage or waste disposal companies have a specific location or pick-up schedule for hazardous materials, so that’s your best bet to get rid of excess finishing products.

Bleach is generally not recommended for your shower drains. Although diluted bleach can technically help clean your drain, it will not unclog your pipes. In fact, bleach can harm your plumbing system because it’s so powerful. The bleach can change the color of your sink and even corrode metal pipes and fittings.

Often, people reach for bleach because it's already in their house. But it's worth getting a plunger or a drain snake for the job instead. It'll be a lot less money to buy a new plunger than to pay a plumber to repair or replace damaged pipes.

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

If your washing machine drain is clogged, that isn’t a good sign. Unlike toilet drains or kitchen sink drains, there isn’t matter that is easily broken up with a plumbing snake, and more care is required. If you’re in an old house or have mineral-rich water, there could be a buildup inside the pipe. Either way, if the blockage isn’t obvious and doesn’t dislodge with a snake, you need to call a pro—otherwise, you risk damaging integral plumbing.

A washing machine should drain the water used during its cycle through a drainpipe and out through the house’s plumbing. This is the same plumbing that sinks and shower drains run to, and if the U-bend is installed correctly, it shouldn’t smell. The total drainage from the house is then integrated into the city sewer system or, if you’re in the country, dispersed into a septic tank.
