situation with Eric Diebolt. If not, just make a note of it if not already that he?s not a nice guy and mediocre at best except for his woodworking abilities which are pretty good. Long story short, Eric was not very nice to most of you directly or at your employees at our house. All of us living here saw it but didn?t want to get in the middle of his attitude. He was always pleasant to us and always answered my phone calls for status updates or issue resolution.
Things started going downhill when Eric stained our floor and tried to match it. Before I could approve it (or say it didn?t match the rest of our floor) he put a urethane coat on it. After hearing that Jason (Works for Eric) even said that it looked bad I confronted Eric and told him to just leave it alone and I would fix it myself. I didn?t want to make it worse by having him keep trying. I told him not to beat himself up that staining and finishing is just not his forte?.
He never recovered from this situation. When almost all of the work that was contracted was done he was finished. I was waiting for a spice rack and hardware for the island to come in so Eric said he would finish installing that and move our double oven over a 1/16? when it all arrived. I paid him his final check the last week of January.. For Ferguson?s sake, I paid him $12,750 for the entire project on time and in full.
Mid-February, the spice rack and hardware came in. I called Eric. He called back a week later and said he had decided he was not going to finish anything and added a few very unpleasant comments about everything including the fact that I didn?t let him pick all of the contractors for the job. Very unpleasant comments about Buffalo Granite, Warning Electric and Precision Flooring especially. I told him we were stuck with an unfinished kitchen and asked him to put his feelings aside and finish the job. He said to call him after Easter and he would give me one day to get it done. After no returned calls I finally got him to answer my call. He said ?I am not coming back, don?t care about your project any longer?. I asked him if he knew a contractor to help with the few leftover items, he said ?No, I don?t care about that?.
Any way I can put this information out in the public would be great so other customers don?t have to run into this would be great. If not, at least I know all of you know about it. If you know of anyone that can help me move the double ovens over I think I can figure out how to install the hardware on our beautiful island. Not sure about the spice rack but I will figure it out.

He has a saying, \"If we can't fix it, you don't need it.\" I like it. We called them in the morning because, I had water all over my basement floor and they were here by 1 o'clock. When I checked out water tanks on Angie's List, he was cheaper than all the others. He had it installed by 4 o'clock. He had up and running. I think it was a Saturday and there was no Saturday charge. He cleaned up the area and it's perfect. He went above and beyond. He removed the appliance, and packaging it came in. It was like he wasn't even here. We thought we had a 40 gallon tank and he brought a 40 gallon tank. It turned out that we had a 50 gallon tank and so he returned it, got the proper size that we wanted, and he came back. I have him scheduled to maintain the rest of our gas appliances in the home. At that time I was impressed with the quality of his work, his professionalism, his willingness to work with me, his flexibility, his willingness to do more than what's required, and his cost. It only made sense for me to go with his services again to prepare my previous home for sale.
For this job, the house was last painted about 10 years ago with a variety of colors and techniques (sponge, feather, lots of yellows, blues, greens). Also, one of the rooms had wallpaper in it. The house is 2200 sq ft. The house had been on the real estate market for about six months without any success. Interviews with new real estate agents indicated it would show better if repainted in neutral colors.
I contacted Petar on or about January 22. He was working nearby and that evening he and I met at the house so that he could do the estimate. We again met on January 27 with my real estate agent and discussed color selections. He did help with suggestions on color selection. He brought along some samples of paint that I had in mind and demonstrated them on one of the walls in the house.
Petar took notes during our meeting and followed exactly what we discussed. He contacted me and we discussed any changes to the plan.
Although he indicated he was busy, he fit me into his schedule immediately. He started the job on January 29, while working another job and then worked full time at my house starting on January 31 upon completion of the other job.
The house was vacant with no furniture to move.
I felt comfortable with giving Petar a key to the house and allowing him free access to the building. I did inform neighbors that he would be working long hours.
His preparation work is very good. He removed all nails and hooks and patched holes. He removed wall paper from the one room. Upon completion of the job, all walls looked flawless.
Petar normally works by himself but did indicate that he had a helper while doing the preparation work. However, the rest of the time, he painted by himself.
On the kitchen, we did not change the color but he did remove a border and matched existing color to paint a wall to cover over a striping technique that was used on that wall. He matched the color exactly.
He is very neat and used drop cloths throughout the house while working. There were no messes. At the end of the job, he did a proper clean up, which included vacuuming carpets.
We had a little bit of scope creep because when we met to discuss colors, I added a few things to paint and also, Petar painted more than I intended because he tends to want to go the extra mile to make the job come out even better. When questioned about additional cost for labor, his answer was that it only took a few minutes more to do it. At the end of the job, he charged only more for paint.
Petar finished the job on February 6. I think he works crazy long hours. Since the house was vacant, he would work late into the evenings. On a few days, he painted at one job in the morning and afternoon and then worked at my house into the night .
Overall, I continue to be impressed with PV Painting & Decorating. I would recommend Petar highly for any painting job.

If he was not here, then neither were his subcontratcors. We hired an archtect at Matt's request who charged a lot of money ($5,000) to design the additiions. What Matt did was change the plans, namely, lowering the new rooms by two feet so that the interior would not require steps. By lowering the foundation, he was warned many times that, in our area, this is below water level. The foundation is block, was never wrapped or tarred--therefore, with water bleeding through these and seeping in under the footers will eventuaklly compromise the mortar and mold the floors. He installed sumps, but the areas are of course perpetually wet. Electrician put switches in places hard to reach, and convinced us to avoid an upgrade to 150 amps which was in the contract.
Matt installed Andersen windows. The screens for these windows did not match the slots in the windows. He told US to call Andersen (since the windows were already installed) to address the problem. The new bathroom is far removed from the boiler, requiring a re-cycler to provide hot water which was to be done before his plumber (a drunk) took off to go gambling. This was never done, and now he has asked US to pay for it's purchase, that he would install it.
His friend and foundation man used our property as a staging area for other projects, and essetntially double-charged us for yard restoration following the completion of the project. While some of the over charge was remediated, this person also worked with Matt on heating, and essentially changed our contract from in-floor (radiant) heat, to UNDER-floor heat ($$$), then failed to properly install a thermostat. While some of these issues are smaller than others, we are now faced with taking Matt to court for the more egregious ones. He simply got overwhelmed and refuses to listen to women, in this case us, the homeowners. However, I'm sure our lawyer will get his attention. When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.
Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
