Lack of durability is the most significant downside of painting tile. However, a painted tile backsplash doesn't see the same kind of action as, say, painted flooring tiles. Afterward, you can simply prime and redo your walls with interior paint, and no one will know the difference.

If you’re looking for durability or outdoor use, opt for enamel paint. Enamel paint is typically oil- or lacquer-based, so it dries hard and it’s ideal for exposure to the elements. Latex paint is water-based and has more flexibility when it dries so it won’t hold up as well to changes in temperature or exposure to wind, sun, or rain.

Depending on factors such as weather, use, substrate condition, and type of paint used, pool deck paint should last anywhere from 1 to 5 years. Keeping the paint clean and resealing every year or two can help extend the life of the paint. Proper preparation before painting also plays a large role in how long the paint lasts on a pool deck. Paint will likely not last as long on a pool deck in poor condition before painting.
