"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"Highly recommend! Everything was excellent from the work to the price. Will be having them back to do more work around the house. I saw them doing gutters at my neighbors and took a chance and asked about a much needed new roof. Boy, I am so happy I did!"

"I called Darren for professional advice about a gutter job done badly by another company at our house. He volunteered his time to come over and explain to me exactly what had gone wrong and how it had to be corrected. With his clear explanations, I was able to go back to the original company and demand that they correct the situation. They complied, and I got new gutters. Darren cared enough to help me out with no money involved.......an honest man, in my book."

Small jobs welcome

"Last year, I hired Alan to clean our higher 2 story gutter. He came as promised and did a very good job and recommended we install a gutter guard which we hired him to do at a later date. He came and installed that guard on the back upper gutter and between the initial gutter cleaning and the gutter guard installation, he only charged us $225. Very reasonable. However, this summer, I attempted to contact him via the email and phone number listed on his card and he never responded back. We were very disappointed."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The cost to install a downspout extension or reroute a downspout generally falls between $30 and $200. The final price depends on factors like whether you DIY the project or hire a gutter professional, the complexity of your gutter system, and the length of the new extension. A simple, above-ground DIY installation can cost as little as $30 for materials. In contrast, a more complex project involving professional installation and digging trenches for underground piping could cost over $1,000. This is still a significant saving compared to replacing your entire gutter system, which costs around $1,900 on average.

It’s best to schedule regular gutter cleanings before there’s a major issue, but sometimes life gets in the way. Luckily, a few telltale signs will let you know when to clean your gutters ASAP:

  • You notice built-up debris in your gutters.

  • Your gutters overflow with water when it rains.

  • Water doesn’t readily flow from your downspouts.

  • Your gutters are damaged or visibly leaking.

  • You notice evidence of leaking along your roof, siding, yard, or pavement.

  • Your gutters have pulled away from your roofing or exterior walls.

  • You see water damage on your soffits or fascia.

  • You have weeds growing in your gutters.

  • You start to see ants or other insects around your gutters or in your home.

  • You suddenly have issues with leaks in your crawl space or basement.

The most common problem with gutters is clogging from debris like leaves, blossoms, and seeds from surrounding trees. This debris can block downspouts, leading to improper drainage and water overflow.

Other common issues include:

  • Leaks and holes, which can often be repaired with gutter sealant or caulk.

  • Rust, sagging, or detachment from the roofline.

  • Damage from strong storms.

  • Improperly pitched gutters that don't drain correctly.

Regular cleaning in the spring and fall is the best way to prevent most of these problems. You may need to clean them more often during periods of heavy leaf fall.

Yes, there are several downsides to installing rain chains. For one, rain chains have a lower flow capacity than a typical gutter and downspout system. This means that if there is a rainstorm, the rain chain can stop working completely. Rain chains also cannot redirect rainwater away from your house. In homes with a sloped yard, this could cause water damage in your foundation or basement.

Yes, you can use a pressure washer to effectively clean debris, dirt, and grime from your gutters, but it must be done with caution to avoid damage. Always use a low-pressure setting, with a recommended range between 1,200 and 1,800 PSI. Excessive pressure can bend or dent aluminum gutters, damage seams, peel paint, or even knock shingles off your roof, potentially leading to leaks and moisture issues. For a safer alternative, consider soft washing or cleaning them by hand. When using a pressure washer, it is safer to use gutter elbow extensions from the ground rather than climbing a ladder, as the force can cause instability. Due to the risks, you may want to hire a licensed and insured contractor for the job.
